Disheartened!

In the first 2 weeks of January, I lost 7 lb, didn't exercise for 2 weeks and promptly regained 2lb. Over the last month, have been swinging -2/+2 - can't seem to break this cycle. Working out hard and eating well at the beginning of the week and then crashing/burning at weekends.
I want to avoid the self pity as I know it's all down to willpower and self discipline but anyone who has an emotional attachment to food will understand it's not easy any advice on how to break the cycle?!

Have you tried pre-logging your food on the days that you tend to have trouble? I have found that if I enter everything in advance, it helps keep me motivated to eat/drink well, because then I know exactly how much damage I will be doing to my fitness goals if I over-indulge.0

Do you know what triggers your emotional eating? If you can identify the triggers, you can avoid them. Like, if weighing yourself and finding you've gone up triggers emotional eating, maybe it's time to put the scale away for a bit to avoid that. If certain foods make you more likely to binge, don't keep them in the house.
Also, maybe keep an eye on your sodium intake. That could have something to do with the weight fluctuations, which could be due to water weight.0 -

Awww don't be disheartened. I don't know where my willpower has come from as of late but people say I have lots of it. I find if you ask yourself if you're hungry or just bored or upset helps. You have to break the connection between emotion and food. Realize that you're just eating to make yourself feel better but that if you do that you'll only feel worse in the end. I wouldn't worry about +/- 2lbs, as that could be due to a lot of varrying reasons.
However, if you think it comes from not eating properly on weekends then maybe that's what you should work on. Log things immediately after or even before you start eating them, and once you reach your calorie goals then don't eat any more. Like you said it really is just a will-power/determination thing.0 -
Deprivation often leads to binge-eating. Find a way to stay on plan that still allows for small portions of the foods you miss. For example, It's better to slowly savor one cookie a day by making room for it in your calorie allotment than to binge on a whole bag on the weekend.0

Thanks guys- I am going to try pre-logging on weekends. Last weekend, I burned about 700 calories in the gym but then went out to dinner and thought 'Ah, feck it.' Logging afterward= SHAME SPIRAL!

I try to allow for enough calories for a treat. It may not be the way others do it, but it is working for me. You can see regularly that I have a cookie or a package of smarties (I chose smarties, because one roll is only 25 calories and I can eat them one at a time and make the sweet last :laugh: ) Total deprivation breeds frustration and leads to binges. Remember to pat yourself on the back for what you do accomplish and it will help you plow through those bad times. I don't necessarily pre-log, but I do plan ahead. Good luck and stick to it.0
