TOM and trying not to eat everything in the house

For the last few days, I have wanted to eat and eat and EAT!! Then I realized next week is "The Week" Any suggestions of what to do here? I used to let myself go (insert chicken wings and beer here in mass quantities) but I have started to realize the trigger. Problem is I'm also cranky. What to do?

  • Hi there.. are you craving those wings and beer or just feel like all you want to do is eat? If its just eating then stock up on low cal things to snack on. If you Must have wings then get some but not in a large quantity and just up your exercise that day to help balance it out.
  • "used to" are the key words here! Becoming mindful of what and how we eat is soooooo important.

Let your self indulge in a little extra something more healthy, log the calories, and congratulate yourself on every little improvement you make!

A couple of things - one try to find lower calorie options for the things that you are wanting and two, get in extra exercise so that you can eat a little more. The last time I experienced this, I added another cardio workout in the afternoon (had already done my normal in the am) and then had a protein bar and some extra water.

Let me start by saying that I work in a catering office on top of a bakery which is connected to a pizza restaurant. Anything and everything sounds good. One of my biggest problems is if I start eating wings, I won't stop at two or three, the whole ten are gone.

I hear you. It's hard at that time of the month. I tend to want carbs and chocolate. So for dinner I might have a stir fry and rice or something with pasta. Then for chocolate 85% organic dark chocolate works for me because there is no way I could eat the whole bar. Another one is hot chocolate. If you have a week off every month and go mad let's be honest you won't get anywhere fast so find low cal options that you can fit into your day that will take away the cravings without going over your daily allowance. Good luck.

Yikes, that's way harder having all that food so readily available! I used to be the same way too. I would tell my friends (knowing it's not true, obviously) that putting lots of fat into my body soothed my cramps and then would eat tons of fatty foods with TOM. I agree with the other posters, find lower calorie options of your fave comfort foods to give you that comforting feeling without all the calories, i.e. last night I ate a whole wheat English muffin with a bit of strawberry jam and a string cheese on the side. Overall, pretty healthy snack, low calorie, and gave me that "eating sweets and cheese" feeling I was looking for without going wild. And then start to find other ways of actually making TOM/pre-TOM feel better. I've got it right now and the last thing I felt like doing was working out, but now that I just finished my workout, my body feels awesome. I used to drink lots of coffee and beer with TOM too but now I chug water and feel much better. So much of this struggle is mental because we are so used to our old habits, so don't give up. Feel better!

Thank you so much everyone for your input! Keep it coming, if not for me than maybe for someone who happens along this post. I did the same thing. I am getting better with brain power along with knowing that I am not the only one out there. You'll see if you look back that I have had 6,000 calorie days. Those were the days I had a 900 calorie Blizzard as a snack that chased the hot wings smothered in blue cheese.

There still may be hope for me yet.

What about getting some chicken (no skin) and making a low-cal bbq chicken snack? Kinda like wings, but healthier. Add lots of carrots or other vegetables in the same sauce to bulk the meal up.

Dark chocolate is also the way forward if you're craving chocolate. Or try having fruit covered in chocolate, that way you'll feel full sooner with less sugar than just chocolate.

I've been craving pizza and to stop myself from eventually binging on a 3000 cal Domino's pizza, I got in some small, 400 cal pizzas. They curb the cravings, fit in my goal and while they're not as good as Domino's, they are good enough. Can you find your "good enough"? What about low cal beers? I think non-alcoholic beers are lower cal so they might be your "good enough"?

I also have a lot of fruit teas with sweetener, I have one brand (a German one) that I always have at around that time of month. Black or green tea don't seem to be good enough to help with cramps but hot drinks in general are soothing and take a fairly long time to drink (because they're hot) so they might keep you distracted for a while.

Maybe try hitting up some of the success stories or any of the things that really make you feel really inspired to lose the weight! And drink water til you are full to the max? =)

Liking the baked chicken thing. Maybe I could use my extra cals for the blue cheese.

    Thanks!
