numb hands

I have just started to workout on my exercise bike and after 10mins my hands started to go numb. Shaking them out I tried it again and the same thing happened. That was nearly an hour ago and if still not got all the feeling back in my hands. Struggling to type here but hoping for some suggestions as to what this is and how do I stop it for next time.

Do you drop your hands at your sides when riding the bike, or do you hold onto the handles? If you have your arms at your sides, I would say that's the culprit. It used to happen to me when I would go for a long walk and swing my arms. My fingers would swell so much that I couldn't get my rings off. Try keeping your hands closer to heart-level if you can and see if that helps.

Or it could be from holding onto the handles with your wrists bent for a long time. Kind of a carpal tunnel thing. I get it on my road bike if I'm leaning on the handgrips to much.

Might be how you have the bike set for fit. This is a problem seen in using other bikes that are not stationary as well, and a matter of changing seat height etc.

Also try some light duty, or gel filled gloves.

If it continues may be a sign of a pinched nerve or something similar and may want to follow up with a doctor

Thanks everyone, think it might have been a carpel tunnel thing, but will look into the gloves and the positioning of the bike. I do hold on to the handles when riding as they move back and forward. As the day has went on it has eased off quit a bit, so we will see what tomorrow morning brings.
