Elliptical Brands

I've declared my old ProForm elliptical dead. I killed it, which is kind of a good thing. I used the carp out of it for the last nine months and it died. I had it for about ten years and used it the first two years almost daily, but not for longer workouts.

So I'm looking into a new one. My wife gave me the green light and I even get to decide my own budget.

I wondered if anyone had some feedback on brand preference or where to buy one. I've looked a couple places and listed the brands they carry. So let me know if you have a brand or retailer you love or hate.

Thanks

Sears
- Nordic Track
- ProForm
- Sole Fitness
- Reebok
- Schwinn

Dick's Sporting Goods
- Body Flex
- Fitness Quest
- FreeMotion
- Horizon Fitness
- Kettler
- Nautilus
- ProForm
- Reebok
- Schwinn
- Smooth Fitness
- Sole
- Staminda Products
- XTERRA

The brand my gym has is Truefitness. I've been using it for the past two weeks and like it. But I don't believe I've used any other brand before. Most of the other gyms I have been to have the same true brand.

I don't know all the brands on your list but Free Motion makes good products. I'm sure you know to stay away from the really cheap ones because they quickly loose how smooth the pedals turn. How nice to pick whatever you want. Have fun!

Well I can't give any feedback on the retailer since mine was a gift but I absolutely LOVE my reebok RL1500 elliptical. It's very sturdy which is important for me since I'm a heavy girl and I can't stand some ellipticals that feel like they're going to break beneath my weight (bad for self esteem lol.) The fans are great (only one of my fans works because we broke the 2nd in transit moving it into my home, woops!) Also, there's a vast array of quick programs to choose from if you want to be pushed so I don't get bored doing the same ones over and over again.

The only things I don't really like about it (and this could have been messed up in transit as well) is that I have to position my hands perfectly to get an accurate heart rate when I check it and the fact that it's MASSIVE. It's a big daddy and my living room isn't that big but it's well worth it for me.

    ETA: It's smooth as butter.

I think you should just go and try some out, and see which feel the best for you. A lot of the brands like proform, nordic track, reebok, and freemotion are all made by the same company any way. If you ask my husband he would say to stay away from all of those. He's an engineer there and is mad at the company right now.

Check out this link, it compares 150+ models from over 30 brands. I got a Schwinn 430 and it is wonderful.
  • I just got one last weekend at Sears, the Nordic Track E7, it was $400 off and I love it!! It has the card slot for the ifit workouts as well.

Is it only the lifefitness machines that tie in with Polar HRM?

I saw a Vision elliptical at 2nd Wind Exercise. I liked the look and feel of it and the good warranty. It's a 3 year warranty versus the 1 year warranty of a Nordic Track at Sears and 90 day for other elliptical machines. I've found the warranty tends to match the quality.

So although the Vision isn't cheap I'm leaning toward it right now. They'll give me a free 30 day in home trial. I bet I put more hours on it than they expect.

Thought's on Vision and 2nd Wind?

    Any good or bad experiences?

Every gym I've ever been to has Precor. They are like $3500+ but man if I ever had the money....

I have a Nordic Track ACT & really like it. It's very smooth & I like the design better than most of the ellipticals. I also love the iFit cards.

I love proform. I'm on my 2nd (the first one broke bc my husband put it together very badly). I have a 3 year warrenty and ifit workouts (that i don't use) and I have an ipod dock with speakers, so I can watch movies while on it. If you go to proform.com to order, they usually have big sales.

Well I bought one today. I was thinking about a more expensive one but settled on one that I hope will work for me for years to come. The ProForm ZE9. My old one was a ProForm but was a very inexpensive model. I got this one at Dick's Sporting Goods. Here's a link that shows a picture, some ratings, and reviews.

I thought it felt pretty good in the store when I used it for a while. It has a fairly long stride and more options that I will likely use, but mainly it seems solid, quiet, and the display is nice.

I bought it with delivery and an extended warranty. I usually don't do the extended warranty thing but this time I figured it would make some sense. I plan to use the carp out of it for years to come so it better work.
