Breast feeding moms!

Need to know how many calories you give yourself daily and how long you have been BF and how much you have lost counting calories while BF. My weight loss kinda just stopped and I thinking I may need to up my calories due to BFing.

I just stopped breast feeding my son 2 months ago (at 13 months). My nutritionist/ lactation consultant stressed BIG on paying attention to your supply. Your body will tell you a lot by the consistency and amount of breast milk you are producing. I was both a pumping and direct feeding mom so this was easy for me. I was able to look at and measure my milk. The two main things he stressed to focus on was greens and proteins. The average milk (if you feed or pump until you are dry) has 10-20 calories per fluid ounce. The "skim" milk is secreted first then the "whole" milk is secreted last. If you are trying to loose weight it is smart to empty yourself until you are dry, causing your body to replace the fatty milk, thus using more calories. I would just "play" with your calories week to week and see how your weight and milk are reacting... and of coarse make sure your are getting adequate nutrition by choosing clean healthy foods and continuing prenatals :) BTW, congrats and you rock for breastfeeding! Its hard work that deserves MAJOR kudos!!
