Anyone done insanity plus weight training?

I was thinking of doing P90X and Insanity (hybrid) after my current training program ends in mid-April but I don't think I'll be able to do the P90X workouts due to the length. Has anyone done Insanity alongside weight training in the gym or even Insanity with another DVD based program like Chalean Extreme?
I want a hybrid program rather than doubling up on workouts as it might be too difficult to stick to so if anyone has a programme incorporating weights with Insanity or something similar (like the looks Les Mills Combat too) I'd love to see the schedule.

its not pure cardio
there is a lot of body weight work as well.
if you are pushing yourself on each workout you dont need anything additional.0 -
What results have you got ie. weight loss and fat/inch loss?0

There is a recover day on Thursday and Sunday is a rest day, so you can squeeze some weights in on those days.
But to be fair, there are Insanity sessions where you're throwing out the guts of 200 variations on push ups, squats etc so there is a lot of strength work involved.0 -
Ok, what about upper body like biceps, shoulders, back etc.? Would it be worth adding in weights for those body parts plus abs?0

why dont you do the first 2 weeks of insanity, and thne if you think you need extra work, you can add it in?0 -
i have done insanity and lifting....hurt like hell but loved it. got great results... only did lifting 2x a week though compared to my normal 40

I just completed Insanity last night, and throughout the whole program I did extra cardio and weight training. I would pop in a weights DVD afterwards, or do free weights by myself.
I'm going to start round 2 of Insanity, and am planning on doing P90X with it.
I've read a lot of people do ChaLean Extreme with Insanity.0 -
I did a P90X/Insanity Hybrid and had fabulous results. You can make the P90X workouts shorter if you skip through all of Tony's talking (LOL). I mean you should listen all the way through a few times so you can hear what he's saying and make sure you're using proper form and everything, but once you're comfortable with all the moves, fast forward through his talking and just lift...you'll probably cut the time nearly in half.

Edit: Besides, even with all his talking, none of the P90X workouts are more than an hour (except yoga), or unless you throw in the Ab Ripper X workout (an additional 15 minutes), on top of whatever else you did that day.
Edit...again: One more thing to add lol. I did both P90X and Insanity separately before I tried the hybrid. I had the best results when I combined the two programs.0 -
Hi Emily, that's what I'm thinking. After finishing Body Revolution which is my current program I think I'll have a good base but I want to get really noticeable results and drop body fat so I think that Insanity combined with some form of strength training would be a good fit.
Time is my main problem as I can only normally do a workout of 30-45 minutes at any one time so don't want to be messing around trying to shorten the P90X workouts all the time, I just want something I can jump right in and do.
I was thinking that if I found some shorter weights routines I could do in my home gym (like 2-3 times per week for 30 minutes or so each) I could do the full Insanity program alongside it but don't know if I'd see better results just by doing a hybrid program like Chalean Extreme plus Insanity instead.0 -
I'm doing insanity at the moment but incorporate this into my normal routine which involves, body pump, spinning, tabata training and i allow myself one day off. What i have found is that the body pump has really increased the tone in my body but with a slight gain in weight however drop in inches so i've tought myself NOT to weight myself but go by my clothes instead. My problem area is my arms so trying to really get them defined but the insanity is really helping with that one!0

I don't understand why people are saying that Insanity is enough. It's not. Yeah, it's goal is to get you in shape, but IMO it's far from the perfect program. I have done Insanity and I had tons of fun but I was disappointed by its lack of weight training. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know the "body weight argument."
After I did Insanity, I did a P90X/Insanity Hybrid. That was MUCH MUCH MUCH better than doing just Insanity. Google P90X/Insanity hybrid and there are tons of schedules. I essentially replaced P90X cardio with Insanity. So that turned into 3 days of weights and 3 cardio days I think?

I can't do P90X, it's too long and I don't want to mess about trying to shorten the workouts.
I therefore want a weight training routine to do alongside Insanity like Chalene Extreme (hybrid maybe) OR I could do a 3 x weekly weight training routine doing 30-40 minutes additional weights on those days.

I've a few days until I finish and I was starting from a fairly poor fitness base. But I knuckled down, took the pain and got through it.
Now, I sure don't look like I should be in an Insanity ad, but I don't quite look like my avatar pic anymore either. It's well worth a go.0 -
