I need some reviews of the different Heart rate monitors out there, I have incorporated Weight training and Cardio so I would like something that can give me readings on the different workouts/exercises that I'm doing.
What can I get that will give me the best bang for my buck?

I have a Polar HRM that I've had for over 8 years. The model that I have is no longer available, but I really like the Polar brand. If you are working out at a gym pretty much every cardio machine will pick it up. Also, they say you need to send in for a battery replacement, but I found after doing that the first time (and a month before I got it back!) that Batteries Plus has the batteries and will even do it for you.
I found mine very easy to program and it does have an alarm you can put on or turn off that will alert you if you are over your HR that you should be at. File system on it is great, can look back over days/weeks and see what you've done.
Good luck, I hope you find what you like, but I wouldn't be without mine again0 -
Bump for later! Thanks Ariel! :happy:0

Polars are really popular.
The best way to get reviews is to go on AMazon and look at the thousands of reviews. I do that whenever I buy something these days.
Then go to Polar's website and compare their different models, or Garmins website, or whoever.
Whichever you choose, buy one with a chest strap.
Here, this is a helpful blog post:

Thanks for the link it was really useful. I've dropped the FT4 and 7 off my list and I'm now just considering the FT40, 60 and 80 based on the information the link provided.0 -

I do the same thing and what swayed me away from polar was the negative reviews about how they just up and stop working or they're broken out of the box.0 -

Had the FT7, upgraded to the FT60 when I lost my transmitter. Best. Decision. Ever.0 -
I have the Polar FT4 and have yet to have any problems with it (knock on wood)...I actually love it. I had a friend that complained about it not picking up her heart rate once, then come to find out she didn't wet her band (like the instructions said to do), so sometimes people don't read but are quick to complain about something not working. But like I said, I LOVE IT :happy:0
