Hi friends! I'm a chubby girl who has always been pretty happy being a chubby girl. A couple of weeks ago I decided that I wasn't really that happy anymore. My husbands sister is getting married soon and I realized that once again, I'm going to be the fat girl in all the pictures. So, I started making some changes.

I used to get zero exercise. I knew I would have to do some sort of something in order to lose any weight, and I've always dreamed of being a runner, so decided that was what I would become. Now, I go on down to our local bike trail every night and walk/run for three miles. It's been fantastic! I was so happy the day that ran for an entire half mile without stopping! I know it's probably not much, but for a girl who has only "run for the border" for the last 15 years, I thought it was pretty good!

My biggest problem is food. I love food. If I could swim in Cheez Wiz, I totally would! I've been making some changes and better decisions but it's still a big struggle. If I could eat egg Mcmuffins for breakfast everyday and Culver's cheeseburgers for lunch, I would be such a happy girl. Oh wait, I DID eat that everyday! And look where it got me, 70 lbs overweight and only pretending to be happy everyday.

Last week, the women in my department at work decided to start a weight loss club. We weigh in once a week (Wednesday) and pay based on if we lost or not. I joined up thinking that with all the changes that I've been making and all the exercise I've been getting that I would lose the lbs for sure! Guess what? Today was weigh in day and I GAINED 1.2 lbs. What the heck??

So, here I am! Hoping that tracking and accounting for every single thing is going to help make a difference. See you all around!

    Hello there!!

First, don't worry about your gain. I bet you are gaining muscle from your exercise and also your muscles could be retaining water from being used. :):)

We're glad to have you and that you are willing to make this lifestyle change!! Before you know if you will be running all 3 miles no problem.

Good luck and everyone here is friendly so just let us know if we can help!!
  • you can do it! sounds like your mind is there, and that's what you need. my problem is soda, and being too lazy to cook. therefore fast food is a culprit for me. I have gone from drinking at least five cans of soda per day to now nothing. i replaced it with crystal light. i am still alive!!! I drink an "equate" chocolate shake for breakfast and for supper i eat something healthy, but of more substance. keep on running, i am jealous. i can't run. i joined a gym and i enjoy the treadmill, bike and arc trainer. keep it up. WE both can do it. we all can do it. i don't want to be the fat girl in the pictures anymore either.

Welcome! I am a foodaholic too! Your weight flucutates (sp?) with so many variables I wouldn't worry too much about it. Unless of course you are just eating a TON of food and intake lots of calories. Knock 'em dead. I hope you blow them out of the water with your weight loss!

I am very proud of you for making the decision to improve yourself! And, good for you for running that half mile!!!!!! I have just recently started running myself. I just turned 42 and probably never ran a consecutive mile in my life and today I ran a 5K on my tredmill. I also started out running and walking. Soon you will find that you can run longer and longer and you're walking less and less. Pace yourself and only do what you are comfortable doing. Soon you will be comfortable going farther. As for the weight gain, well, I'm not sure about that. Take a good look at what you're eating. The "experts" all say that even if your exercising you still have to change what/how much you eat to lose the weight. I'm an eater and I could be swimming in that Cheese Whiz with you, so I understand how you feel. Instead, I sprinkly some cheese on my salad to bulk it up a little. I have found that more protein fills me up longer but I also stay away from breads, pasta and as much sugar as possible because they fill me up for the moment but in an hour I'm starved and looking for something to eat again. Listen to your body and try to eat as clean as possible. You're on the right track and you'll do great-- after all, admitting you have a problem is the first step, lol.

Yeah, don't ya hate those people who tell you they forget to eat? What's up with that? I am thinking about my next meal while I am in the process of eating, so I feel your pain! BUT if you are determined to make a lifestyle change, you can certainly do it! Take it one meal at a time and whenever possible, try to plan your day's worth of meals in advance. IT really can help when you are starting out. You will find lots of encouragers here at MFP, so welcome and good luck on your journey!
