Fast weight loss

Looking to jumpstart my weightloss and start goood habits early. I believe sticking to the calories and exercising works but what do you find helps getting a quick jump start on weight loss? I have A LOT of things coming up over the next couple of months and want to lose fairly quickly at first. No Sugar? Less carbs? what has worked for you?

Eating mostly healthy foods at a calorie deficit and at least 20 straight minutes of cardio every other day. Most of the time I do 30 min or more.
  • DETOXing will help your body get started. Then go on a fruit and veggie and whole grains for three days and then start your low calorie diet. It's kind of the reset button for our bodies so it knows you mean business. and plenty of WATER Good luck

Do you think it is better to start on the lo calorie diet and then do a detox/whole grain/low sugar diet? Im contemplating what to do. I have TONS of stuff in the next year to look forward to: Siblings wedding/MY wedding..BUT I do have a huge party to go to in a week or so, I know I wont lose a lot of weight between now and then but if I am on a strict regimen I will feel great by then because I know Im in the process. Im just worried if I go to strict at the start it will delay my weight loss becausemy metabolism will start to slow down. Im thinking to stick to MFP religiously within the calories and cut out any fried/non whole grain/sugary foods for now and then once it gets close to go on a detox of some sort. Have you found detoxes work well at the start? middle? end? all of the above?

Higher protein and less carbs. Although plans like Adkins and South Beach are popular, I think eating more healthy protein with vegetables, plus a few carbs to get your fiber (whole wheat breads, pasta, oatmeal, fruits) works well. Limit your sugars to only what you eat in fruit or other natural foods. I do find that the more protein I eat, the longer I stay full/content between meals. I also believe in a healthy protein-based snack is great between meals so that you are not ravenous at your next meal. Also, I drink hot green tea in the morning (I am lucky enough to have a desk job where I can drink the tea over a few hours (using a Planet Zak thermal drinkware). I feel like the warmth helps me remain full until I have my morning snack (usually 24 almonds or 1/3 or 1/4 cup mix of half walnuts and half pumpkin seeds). I also drink 8 to 16 oz of water when I feel hungry, as I have read that being dehydrated or thirsty can make you experience hunger pangs. Another thing I do is have a "free" meal once a week or once every two weeks. I do not go too overboard most of the time, but I think this keeps your body from feeling like it is in starvation mode or just to change up your body's comfort. Obviously I am not perfect in eating in this way, but when I do, I see my weight come off at a rate of 2 to 2.5 pounds per week. If that is not fast enough for you, my thought is to go with the high protein and only low-carb vegetables for a while (which I know of people who have done very well in a short period of time eating this way). Best wishes for great success.
  • I agree with detoxing. Detoxing gets rid of what's already unneeded.. pretty fast, too. You lose a lot of "extra weight" and water weight, too. Plus, it's usually super healthy and a good way to break you body into everything. After a while of that, you'll probably notice yourself craving for more healthy foods. Then, it's all about working out and building muscle or toning (muscle helps burn calories so make muscle as you burn..). Ease into everything, of course.

Also, don't let your body go into starvation mode. You'll hold on to fat and it's a lot harder to fight a body that thinks it won't get food for a while.

For me it only took 7 months to lose my weight. I workout every day, no excuse....sick is NOT an excuse. I also eat under my calories, still do in fact & will ONLY eat my exercise ones back if I am hungry at all... no point in feeding your body if it's telling you you are not hungry. I cut out all sugar except natural stuff, carbs I still have.

Cardio, Cardio and more Cardio oh and throw in strength training to tone up and build muscle which burns fat faster
But for a very fat person Cardio is quicker and more effective at getting rid of the bulk of it while increasing your fitness levels. I've gone 60mins a sessions sometimes 2 sessions a day (an average of 1000 calories a session), have only been at it for a week now and have lose according to scales which isn't totally accurate but 3kg's. and thats purely 1-2hrs of hard workouts per day with a high heart rate and cutting back on calories, still working out the nutrition bit but i was hovering at 1000 daily deficit due to my 40% excess body fat and the excess of exercise i was doing. Now this may not be healthy but
    A) so far i've eaten whenever i felt hungry
    B) I've made a significant change in the types of food and gone cold turkey so far on fast food, soft drinks and sweets
    C) and as pinkyrayne said even if i was sick which this week i've had a irritated throat for the past 2 days i had a rest day yesterday but am still 2days ahead of the normal schedule and today i went harder then ever

and this is from someone who did almost no exercise on a regular basis for over 10yrs weighed 242lbs and 40% body fat just last week. and already lost 3 kilo's and a few % body fat. my heart rate has lowered by 5% avereage which is good but a pain for trying to lose weight fast lol. I feel alot more stamina and don't feel bloated anymore

I wouldn't recommed that without professional advice but it's working for me atm, come next week i am back at work and will only be able to train after 4pm so i'll likely only get 1x60min session in a day but i can still easily go beyond my calorie burn goals to lose 2Lbs a week which is the recommended maximum.

I also don't want to go by the eat your calories back unless i'm hungry or feel fatigued, doesn't mean it's wropng i understand the reasoning if you are fit to start with but as in my case i have so much excess baggage i need to get rid of that first b4 overfilling myself. If i go by the calculators around the sites linked to this and this site i should be eating over 3000 calories not including exercise and i just can't do that, 1900 is too many but 1500 seems to be my lower limit to keep my active and not always hungry ( but thats me not you)

Do Exercise as much as you can withouth injuring yourself or atleast dont sit dormant when you aren't officially exercising,
Give yourself atleast 1 rest day per week for the body to recover and recharge and eat at the calories you are comfortable witha but above all eat the healthy stuff not the junk food.

What does it get rid of that the body does not need that your body does not get rid of anyway naturally? What exactly do you mean by detoxing?

You'd probably want to ignore almost all the advice given so far. Some of the suggestions are harmful, most pointless.

All you have to do is eat at a moderate caloric deficit and move more.

Oh good lord....this thread really has some stupid advice. No offence meant but....detox, excessive cardio, 3 days of fruit and veg and nothing else. Come on guys seriously?

OP stop with the quick fixes and wanting to be slim like yesterday. It won't happen overnight. If you needed to of lost weight by a certain date you should of started eating less earlier. There isn't a sustainable quick fix to losing weight.

Do not listen to silly advice telling you to not eat this and not eat that. You can eat whatever you want as long as you are burning more than you take in. Of course you you will probably feel better and fuller for longer if the majority of your calories are coming from protein and fats.

Work out your TDEE and eat around 20% under it and you will lose weight. Nothing else is needed.

read the connection about anorexia and heart muscle loss...if you lose too much weight too fast it could affect the heart. But thats only if you lose a lotttt over a transient period of time

@jessz one of my favorite quotes I tripped up upon was "you gain weight and dont care about ur body for couple years...you cant expect to lose it in days or weeks!!"

If you want to start 'good habits', undereating is NOT the way to go. Fast weight loss is not a good habit.

Thank you for posting this. I was reading through the replies and hoping that the OP didn't take any of the previous suggestions seriously.

This. Don't fall for the detox thing, OP.

Be patient. Exercise. Eat right, at a reasonable deficit. Treat your body with respect.

The best way to jump start weight loss is to stop trying to find shortcuts.
