Questions about high blood pressure.

Options
Hi all,

I was recently admitted to the hospital with high blood pressure. After a couple of days it went back to normal. The docs have no clues as to why my blood pressure is high. :grumble: I have never had high blood pressure before this is a first for me. I have recently lost 24 pounds in weight and i thought that this would stop me from getting high blood pressure and make me more healthier!!!!!!
A lot of people have died from heart attacks in my family ( on both sides). Can heart problems be passed down through the generations ?
I was just wanting to know if anyone could shed a light on this matter for me any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Pamela xxxxxx

If you aren't tracking your sodium in your food diary start doing so. There is alot of hidden sodium in foods that you will be very surprised by. Once I started on my food plan and tracking sodium, I was able to get my BP pill in half and hope to be off of it very soon.

I had high blood pressure ever since my first pregnancy 30 years ago. I had toxemia, etc and after preg. the doctors could never control it. I was on 4 pills a day. Then over a year ago I became a strict vegetarian. By that I mean absolutely no meat at all. After a month I went to my doctor because I was so dizzy. Well, the bottom line is I went from 4 pills a day to now one. My doctor says it seems that the meat had something to do with it. i know I feel better than I have in over 30 years.

I hate to tell you, but if it's in your family that's the WHY! I'm the last person in my immediate family to get on blood pressure medication. I'm 32 and my BMI is in the "healthy range". SO... age, weight, all that really doesn’t matter (it does), but not if it runs in your family. It sounds like your family history is alot like mine. After my visit to the ER, and several doctor visits, I was told to monitor it twice a day for a week. That gives the doctor more information... I checked it in the morning and at night. AND you doctor has to have a record of it being high before they do anything. Reason for my several visits.

HOLD ON... Are you also pregnant? I'm confused about your signature things... If you are, that's a WHOLE different issue. I had high BP while I was pregnant -- that's a real big issue! Keep me posted please (send me a note).

High blood pressure and heart disease are definately hereditary. You need to make contact with a internal med specialist or cardiologist. Explain your family history. They will do some base line tests and give you advice/medication. Visit once a year or more often if they suggest. Being aware that these things are in your future and preparing now are the things that save your life.

Speaking from the exact background, and years of experience!!

You really need to stay on top of this with your DOCTORS! If nothing else, do it for your future grandchild!!!! It's too easy to swallow a pill. It really sounds like a family history thing.
