So, I had posted a topic where the neighbors kid and his buddy were smoking pot and having a negetive impact on my wifes day care business.
Here is what happened:
OK...
I spoke to the Mom last night.
I went over there and the Son answered.
I said . "Hey.. I need to talk to your Mom."
He looked at me and, "... Ummmm"
I said: "Now please".
So, Mom came to the door and I asked her if I could talk to her for a minute.
She came outside and we had a little chat.
Just a bit of background on her.
She has been a school teacher for several years. Two years ago, she got arrested for public intoxication. In my personal opinion, that is a B.S. arrest but, not my call.
Anyway, as a result, she got fired from her teaching position from the elementry school literally 1/2 mile away.
She was jobless for a year and she landed a job at another school this year about 60 miles West of here.
So, I explained the smoking situation and told her I really was running out of options. I was going to have to call the police.
She said she knows her son smokes but there is nothing she can do (single mom).
She called her son and his buddy outside and I explained that if I called the police, her mom would probably get fired.
That did not seem to affect him very much.
The conversation moved to the fact that the son was going into the Navy in a few months along with his friend. They both had gotten accepted to the Nuclear Energy school.
So, I tried a different approch.
I explained that they would need a pretty high security clearance in order to enter into this school.
They infomed me that they already knew this and the clearance is already in the works.
So then, I informed them that an arrest for drugs is almost a gaurentee that they will NOT get this clearance and they will end up with some crap job in the Navy or worse, not even be able to enlist.
That seems to have gotten his attention so, we will see what happens.....

But will it keep their attention..... Good luck!0

Good for you for letting them know! Hopefully they straighten out...and do they not drug test when you enlist?0
-
I would have guessed that security clearance for the Navy would also involve a drug test. Is that not the case?0
-
I think you are being very nice here...
p.s. where I live people call the police if you start your washing machine after 10 PM....0 -
Since marijuana stays in the system for 30 days, they are at risk if there's a drug test. You should probably tell them that, as well.
If they lied to the recruiter and said they didn't do illegal drugs and then they test positive, they'll be out of the service and not be allowed back in. They have no idea how stupid they are being.0 -
Hey. You fired a warning shot. If they don't get it and stop, call the cops.
Personally, I have no problem with Pot. No different than Alcohol and much better than most prescription drugs, but if their behavior is jeopardizing you revenue, it has to stop.0 -
hate to sound old, and I am not even that old.. but that's the attitude kids have today.. Whatever, screw everyone else I do what I want with no consequences. Our society has become a bunch of hand holding hippies.. Turn the hose on em if they do it again.. I am all for bringing back disciplining kids.0

It has been a LONG time since I did the process but, as a kid, I always kept my nose clean so the drug tests did not have that big of an impact on me.
More of an inconveniance then anything else.0 -
From the way they act it doesn't sound as if your threat will really do any good nor will the potential of them not making it into the military.
As a lot of people here said you fired the warning shot. Next time I would call the cops.
And I call bull on the mother who said she can't do anything about it. So the kid is 18. He's still living at home and under her rules. She can most definitely put a stop to it.0 -
I hope they believe you. I hope they stop smoking and make it to the Navy.
I wish his mom would step up and do something, though. She sounds like an enabler to me. "I can't do anything about him because he's 18 and I'm a single mom"??????0 -

denying access to money, phone, internet and junk food works with ANY given teenager...0 -

...This.
My parents would have absolutely kicked me out of the house for not following their rules.
Then again I may well be an exception to my Millenial generation with a college degree, an actual career, a stable marriage, and a nice place to live that isn't in my parent's basement.
Man, I sound old.0 -

Same here SMH my neighbors are a pain in the butt. :grumble:0 -

"I can't do anything about him because he's 18 and I'm a single mom"??????
Here in MN, I believe, it is not a legal defense under the safe haven law.0 -
1. The type of security clearence they need involve interviewing neighbors. If you even elude to them having used drugs and they have not admitted it on their inprocessing forms, they are out (not because they smoked mj, but because they lied).
2. Not sure I would want a couple of pot heads around nuke reactors that are out and about bouncing around in the water! No second chance when things go wrong.
Retired military myself0 -
Ask to wait and smoke with them at 7 pm after parents have picked up the children. Win win.0

I try to set a good example for my own kids and "Daddy is a pothead" is a pretty poor start in my opinion.0 -

Maybe he shouldn't tell them. What little brats they're being, not caring about his mothers job; maybe he needs to learn a little life lesson. He's been an incredibly decent neighbor handling it as he has, and it sounds like the teens couldn't give a toss.
Then again, if they don't get into the navy they may wind up sponging off mum and smoking pot for the next ten years..which sucks for everyone0 -

Actually, as his neighbor - there's a pretty strong chance that the FBI will be calling to interview you as part of the investigation.
I know back when I was getting mine - pretty much all of my neighbors - even from years before - had a visit from the FBI.0 -
I hope they straighten out a bit and make it through the enlistment process. It sounds like they need a reality check on life, the military will do the job0

I hate punish thinking, i prefer what works thinking. If he has started a "rapport" of any kind he should ask if the drug tests are the same as in his day whenever they are puttering around or whatnot. Puts the idea in their head without sounding preachy. I'd like to see both those kids get the good navy careers they want and get to busy to do that much anymore. I'd like to see the single mom teacher have room in her house to find a man. I'd like to also see the OP solve his wife's problem and get hero *kitten*. Just sayin'. Keep us tuned in I'll be watching for more on this soap opera.

You're a great neighbor, very patient!! I really hope it works out for you and your wife. Good Luck!0

Cool...hope things work out for you!0

^This...my daughter joined the Air Force last summer and she was drug tested before, during and after. So they'll be sorry.0 -
Just what the Navy needs.
A couple of pot head nuke techs.
I foresee a very rude awakening for those 2 if they actually get in.0 -
I find it more concerning that the mom was arrested for public intoxication than the pot smoking that goes on there.0
