How do I know how many calories burned (HRM noob)

I got a HRM today. Used it for the first time. It doesn't have a calories burned feature. How do I know how many calories I burned... My heart rate was anywhere between 114 - 175 during 30 day shred. How do I calculate that.....

Are you sure it doesn't have that feature? What's the brand and model number? I'd take it back and get one that does tell you how many calories you burned.

It's the omron hr-100c. I got it online. It's the cheapest I can afford that's still accurate. It was recommended to me by another mfp user. The seller doesn't take refunds.

You'll need to punch your numbers into a calorie burn calculator like this one:

    http://www.superskinnyme.com/heart-rate-calculator.html

If someone else knows of one that they use and like they should reply and share the link.

I used the site and it just gave me my training zone?

I goofed that one up; read their description wrong. Try:

    http://www.shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/calculators/heart-rate-based-calorie-burn-calculator.aspx

And read their explanation of gross and net burn so you know which number you want to use; they have calculators for both.

I was on this site earlier actually! It just confused me because Im not sure what my average heart rate was.
It fluctuated frequently depending on the circuit or move in the workout.

Which do people usually prefer, gross or net?

    I found this site:
    http://www.calories-calculator.net/Calories_Burned_By_Heart_Rate.html

Problem is, your heart rate will need to be kept at a consistent level for you to accurately figure your calories using this site.

I also looked up the HRM that you bought and it appears that it does not have a calorie function at all, which I find a little surprising. I guess your model is made for people like me who want to exercise but are so out of shape that they are afraid they'll have a heart attack if they go over their zone limit.

I bought a Polar FT4, on sale through Sears.com for $50 (thanks to an MFP poster who mentioned the sale last month).

You might double-check with the seller about returns, although if you've already used it, he/she will likely not allow it, and then keep your eyes open for a sale on a different brand or model that does estimate the calories burned.

If you can get your average heart rate during your whole workout this calculator is great!!! I love using it

    Yeah.. too much for me.
I bought this HRM for 25$ and the original brand new price was 60$.

Im thinking of just selling the HRM because im SO confused now since it doesnt have a calories burned option.

This is a link to one of many dozens of sites that will estimate calories.

If you're running, you can use the formula at runnersworld.com for a ballpark figure.

Google is your friend for finding others.

One thing to please keep in mind is that you're doing well to get within 20% of calories expended which is why it's referred to as an "estimate".

For example, I just threw my numbers from a recent run into the link that I posted and it gave me a number of 494. I use an HRM+software combination that gives me values that are 5 to 10% accurate and it came up with 351.

Your HRM numbers are probably pretty accurate but when you start putting things into formulas that are based on data about the general population, things get inaccurate very quickly.

My advice is to just accept that calorie estimates will be inaccurate so the only thing that you can really trust is your scale.

I think I might just sell the HRM. Its basically an estimation game which is the same as I was doing before I had the HRM. Hm.
