Anybody deal with a lot of upper back pain? did loosing weight help it go away?
My upper back, between the shoulder blades is on fire sometimes. Constant annoyance/pain for 3+ years. Doc said it was muscular because muscle relaxers helped make it go away for one weekend. But those pills made me sort of loopy....I was super tired on them and couldn't focus. Not a long term solution.

Sorry! It's so discouraging to experience extended time in pain!
For me, lifting weights/walking/stretching....basically getting my body moving and doing things to create good posture, rid me of back pain.
The other things I used were massage and chiropractic. The massage first, to loosen the tense muscles; the chiro appt immediately following, to correct subluxation.
My chiropractor uses an "activator" rather than manual adjustment, because I don't like to be "cracked".0 -
Hello there! I can't say I have upper back pain. I myself suffer from lower back pain. I know if I do stretches in the mornings and evenings the pain is far less. Being overweight puts a strain on our muscles. So stretching them out might help strengthen them to a point were the pain is barely there or none at all. A simple Google search will help you find some stretching maneuvers to do. I hope this helps!

Have you ever tried physical therapy? That's what helped me. My favorite therapy was in a warm water pool, but I actually started with regular PT after being rear-ended on the interstate.
Muscle relaxers didn't work for me.0 -
Chiropractics help me. But it did take me a little while to find a good one. After he adjusts me, it actually hurts worse for a while, but when I wake up the next morning, it feels soooooo much better. Same thing with occassional hip pain. It might be worth a try. But there are a few quacks out there, so get references from people you trust.0

Osteopathic manipulation was and is the fix for me. Traditional physiotherapy just didn't release the seized joints.
Sports massage helps.
Giving up riding sports motorcycles with hunched over riding positions also helped!
Making sure you have good posture and ergonomics when working on computers makes a big difference for me - my Osteopath correctly guesses when I use a laptop instead of a properly set up desktop for extended periods.0 -
Thanks for the advice pals.
I saw the Chiro a couple of years...didn't fix the problem. Stretching sometimes helps and sometimes hurt after... I am praying loosing weight gets the pain to go away.0 -
I had lower back pain planks and lifting weight really helped me. GL!0

Hi - i've had upper & lower back pain following a car accident in which i was rear-ended x13 years ago. i can honestly say that losing weight has helped tremendously! i'll admit i used to roll my eyes when the dr. told me that would help, but it really has. i also try to pay close attention to my posture & have bought a chair with good back support for my home office since i work about 20 hours a week there on a laptop.
Another suggestion - have you had an evaluation for herniated disks? i ended up having surgery on my neck due to herniated disks almost 2 years ago & the dr. told me that this was due to the original injury & the disks finally wasted away so they were pinching a nerve & surgery was the only option.0 -

I'm almost at the point of getting checked out by a specialist to rule out anything serious. Ny regular doc thinks it is muscular since muscle relaxers made it go away.0 -
I had a 2 level spinal fusion( lower back) about 2 and a half years ago so I know back pain is no fun! Have you ever tried a heat wrap? I still have problems with my neck (arthritis) and I use one of those wraps you can put in the microwave...it has beans in it. They really help loosen things up...plus the one I have has a lavender scent so it really helps to relax me. Obviously its not a long term solution but I know you what you mean about muscle relaxers...blech! I'd also agree that stretching and losing weight should help some too...and if you tend to carry tension in your shoulders...I sometimes do have to check my posture when I'm stressed out I tend to scrunch up my shoulders and it makes everything tense and sore...something to think about in case you're like me and for the longest time didn't realize I was doing that to myself! Good luck0

Ever try yoga? It can work miracles for back pain - find a good instructor who will work with you to stretch and strengthen - it's a great stress reliever as well. Good luck.0

I get them frequently. Practice proper posture and work your upper back out with weights. It's muscle atrophy - your upper back muscles are too weak and over stretched leading to constant spasms0
