Does anyone get bored...

I remember a talk show years ago that had Burt Reynolds as a guest, he was asked what he had been up to lately and he replied "oh just sitting around waiting for my newly transplanted hair to grow" Wow! how boring is that! Now I'm beginning to feel the same boredom, Everyone knows gaining weight is fun, you never notice the weeks/months/years go by while your eating and gaining weight, but man, when you start reducing the food you eat, time seems to drag on.... and on... like; one potato..... two potato.... and I really don't feel like doing much anything else, I mean how can I really get into cleaning out a closet or shampooing the carpet while I'm busy losing weight...lol Anybody got any ideals on how to pass time and maybe get my mind focused on positive things? Thanks, Rose

Well when I first started this journey I was sitting at home (before I went back to work) being bored, getting fatter and more depressed every day. I started really working on my exercising by doing the walk away the pounds workouts. I did 100 miles that first month. It jump started my weight loss and really helped with the depression.
This would be a good time to take up a new hobby or something you've always wanted to do and never had the time. Just keeping your mind and hands occupied with something might help.

You're preaching to the choir! I'd love to know too!0

Try to not let losing weight be an all consuming thing. It is only one part of your life. If you don't start looking at this as just making smarter choices and incorporating more movement into your everyday life then eventually most people fail. It has to be a part not the whole of your existence. Ideas to pass the time? Live your life to the full. Do what you love! Time will fly.0

In order to not get the galloping crazies, approach your journey as a choice to improve your lifestyle. Don't let "losing weight" occupy all your time. For one thing, becoming obsessive means that you are likely to drive family and friends away who, while they likely wish you well, will want to have a conversation with you that doesn't involve what you can't eat, how much you can eat, what you will eat....well you get the idea.

Take some time each day to plan your meals so you know what you are going to be eating that day. Read a post or two for inspiration, post if you wish, but then GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE. Take some time to figure out some goals, priorities, whatever you want to call them, so that you know what you are trying to accomplish. When you get "down in the dumps" take a look at your list and see what you have accomplished, and think about what you can do to work toward something else on your list.
Your post doesn't make it clear if you are working or not. If you are, that takes care of some of the time. If not, think of all the things on "Someday Isle" that await you. You know, "Someday I'll ..."insert item here"...... I have a boatload of those things and even though I have been off work for two months, I didn't come close to getting all of them done.
I can personally testify that if you get moving, the endorphins resulting from exercise WILL help you feel more positive, and burning calories helps you in your goal for good health.
Good luck to you.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0 -

This is Good.. I'm going to read this often.. Thanks0 -
my nutritionist basically made it sound like what i am doing isn't dieting. i'm just eating and excercising the way i should for the rest of my life. so, even though i am very focused on it. life should go on as normal. maybe its because i've only been dieting for 6 weeks, but i don't feel deprived. i feel liberated.0

I am a stay at home Mom so to speak... all my kids are grown, only one left at home, and at 18 he does not need me like he used to. To keep from becoming bored I do a lot of gardening and I love to walk with my dogs. I have also rediscovered my joy of reading. It is all about keeping your mind and body occupied. You will do great, I am sure of it!0

I agree that life should go on as normal and one should not obsess about the weight loss. I love this site to track what I have been eating and seeing the calories, etc. Just by doing that I have realized that things that I was eating need to be portioned more or not eaten at all to lose weight. I feel more liberated with this site. I have been working more in my yard and bicycling with my children because they don't like to walk with me. I also have a full time job, so I do not exercise as much as I would like. If you are not working, maybe volunteer at your place of worship or local organization to get your mind off of losing weight. Just occupy your time with other things so you are not temped to eat. Always cary around a water bottle and if you think you are hungry and it is not time to eat, drink instead. I was not nearly drinking the right amount of water. I feel so much better since I started doing that as well. Good luck to you to on your journey. This is a eating program for a lifetime change, not another diet.0
