10lb. Possible in a month?

Ok, so normally I would never do this. I know it's not great health wise and I know it will most likely go back on pretty quickly. I am fine with this folks. I just need some help.
I have a conference abroad at the start of April for one week. ALL of my black tie dresses and decent day suits are currently too small. So I have 2 choices. Suck it up and spend £000's on stuff that will be too big in a few months or lose 10lb before I go.

I would rather do the latter and I am looking for inspiration. Internet sites, Youtube programmes, advice etc. I watched the Dawn Porter "super slim me" last night which helped me realise I can do this as long as it is not forever!

I am trying 5:2 and managed fine so far today having also run for 40 minutes burning 400 calories.

Any more ideas welcome!

:-)

It is definitely possible, I've lost 8lb in 10 DAYS. The first 5 days I was going by the calorie number MFP gave me; then I found out about TDEE & BMR and figured that out and have been eating significantly MORE calories the second 5 days (MFP told me 1640 for 1lb/week loss; using TDEE minus 20% I get 2116 calories a day!!!!). I haven't been able to add in much exercise due to a recent injury so for now it's just diet. And 8lb in 10 days gone.

You can find the TDEE (which stands for Total Daily Energy Expenditure) info here:

It depends on where you're starting. Ten pounds in a month is certainly possible, but more so if it's the first ten pounds of 75 or more, not the last 10 pounds to your goal weight. And a good chunk of the first 10 pounds will be water weight and might not have much of an impact in how your clothes fit.

I should have mentioned this too - despite the quite shocking (to me) loss, my clothes still fit the same. And yes, it is the first 8lb I've lost (this time around) of about 140 that need to go for me to be at a healthy BF %.
  • Totally understand. Sadly, it's very nearly really the last 10lb. I could probably stand to lose about 17 overall but I wouldn't want to be much thinner than that.
It's going to be a difficult month. :-(

If you try really hard!! Plan in your exercise days, have a sticker chart maybe ( I keep going on about these, but they really work!) and non food related reward each week if you meet your targets! get loads of sleep too!

I've done it. I drink a TON of water and eat lean meats and really load up on veggies. My calories are usually pretty far under goal but I stay reasonably full thanks to the veggies. Usually I either grill them outdoors or use a grill pan when the weather sucks. I was probably 70 lbs overweight when I first started this a couple of years ago and I lost about 18 lbs in the first month. It wasn't healthy but I did it.

It sounds like scale wieght is not your goal here but inch loss ie clothes fitting. Many people seem to get good results from exercise e.g. DVDs like 30day shred or hitting the gym? Good luck.
  • This is all great advice. I will be updating progress to motivate me here too.

Grilled Chicken and roast veg (no carbs) for dinner!
