What's the difference and science behind eating at what mfp says and the tdee calories? Which one helps lose weight fastest?

TDEE is the total amount of calories your body will burn in a 24 hour period based on your lifestyle. I tend to look at it rather simply, eat less calories then your TDEE, you lose weight. I pretty much use the same philosophy with the BMR. Eat less than what your body needs to maintain your current weight, and you will lose weight. The important thing is to make sure that you are eating healthy and giving your body the nutrients it needs.0

I found this thread explained TDEE well to me -

According to that thing and calculations my tdee is 2228, minus 20% I should be eating 1728 calories a day. I have been eating 1400. The 1728 seems like alot of food to be losing weight? Should I give it a try? Or stay at my 1400 a day? And btw, I calculate my totals weekly, not daily. Easier for me to have a 3,500 deficit counting weekly calories than 500 per day.0

I first started out at 1500ish and lost weight quickly, but also plateau'd quickly too. I upped it to 1800 and moved past the plateau at a satisfying pace until I hit my desired weight. I'm supposedly in maintenance at 2090, but am still slowly losing weight (maybe 1/2lb every other week). Upping your calories seems counterintuitive, but it is legit.0

I would try it for a month and see how it works out. If it doesn't work you can always go back to the 1400. Also, if you try it make sure you don't eat your exercise calories as they are already factored into the 1728 it gave you. I'm starting it today and my TDEE-20% is pretty close to yours (1731). I've been the same weight for 4 weeks now netting between 1300-1400 calories. TDEE-20% seems to work for a lot of people on here so I thought I would give it a try too! Feel free to add me! Good luck in whatever you decide to do!0
