Healthier food products

Hi everyone,

I have recently decided that I want to lose quite a significant amount of weight. I am 19 years old, 6'6, and 310 pounds. My goal weight is 270 for now. I am used to drastically over eating and not watching my calorie intake at all. The last few days I have started counting calories, and are now eating slightly under my calorie limit (2080 calories), and have begun exercising (6 days a week). While this is true, the content of my food hasn't changed much, just the amount. Therefore, I am still eating a bit of junk food. It is hard as a college student to eat healthy, but I was wondering if you all knew some food products that would help me along the way. I already love fruit, and eat it quite often. But I'm not a big fan of many vegetables. So my second question is, how can I get myself to enjoy them more?

  • Unfortunately, vegetables are something we all need to eat, even when we don't like them, lol! I try hard to eat them, even though I don't like a lot of them. I found that trying a whole bunch of different recipes and preparations helped me. I can't stand simple steamed veggies - yuck. I have a lot of yummy, low-cal recipes I could send you if you pm me? That is, if you like to cook, lol!

Fruit although healthy is still sugary, so you may want to cut back on that depending on how much you eat a day. Have you tried hummus? Fresh veggies make an excellent vessel for hummus. There are different types out there. Chickpeas, white bean. Just watch calorie and fat content with the various ingredients.

Kind of a chip and dip variation if you will.

You can hide veggies in other foods. Add some zucchini or mushrooms to tomato sauce, shredded carrots in meatloaf. Mix some spinach into your smoothie and just learn different ways to prepare them. Roasting is my favorite for carrots, broccoli, zucchini, eggplant, brussel sprouts...
Maybe you cannot stand some veggies raw but like them steamed, roasted, in a stir fry.
And simply: eat more of the veggies that you like!

Healthy things that won't cost you a fortune: oatmeal, eggs, chicken, canned tuna, brown rice, beans, lentils, frozen veggies, bananas, apples, oranges, natural peanut butter, whole grain bread, whole wheat pasta.

I have indeed had hummus before, it is a favorite of mine actually. Thanks for the idea!
