bike commute w/ hills & running advice

I like biking and did it in college on campus but that was mostly flat ground. I live in a city that is full of hills and it's intimidating to me. I feel that I won't be able to do it and fail and also there are 2 5ks I would like to participate in in the summer, Neon Run and Run for Your Lives. I just started to workout again, I don't have anyone to go with on those runs mainly because everyone is busy... should I just sign myself up? Also, I'm a very shy and timid person.
Thanks for listening!

sign up! then get your butt out there and start running/riding those hills now so that people can swarm you at the finish line asking what your secret is for running so fast.0

You can always walk your bike, I call it cross training.. haha! You'll never tackle those hills if you don't start somewhere. As for the 5K's.. nothing is as motivating as signing up for a race and race day energy is awesome. So bottom line, just do it!0
