I am away from home 4 days a week and living out of my hotel
restaurants are expensive and hard to do every night
anyone with recommendations for a line of food with lots
of choices that meet the above criteria would be helpful

I think Lean cuisine meals are good. That's the only brand I've tried.

I have had a lot of pre portioned frozen meals during this time because it is so much easier to count calories and keep portions small, so far lean cuisine is the best for flavour and quality, michelinas lifestyle has been not my favorite, dissappointed every time.

I like Amy's brand - could be because I'm a veggie - but most of it is whole grain.
  • Green Giant makes steamed microwave vegetables that are really great and are only from 90 to 140 calories.

The Weight Watchers ones are pretty good. They're called Smart Ones. I like them, but they're kind of small if you have a big appetite. You can add a bag of steamed veggies and that helps. Have you seen the frozen veggies that come in the ready to serve bag? Just put the whole bag in the microwave for 5 minutes and they're perfect. I eat them just about every day.

Loman took my idea, The Green Giant things are great!
Other then that, a bag of frozen veggies or fruit is always cheap and easy.
EVEN in a hotel. With a 1.00 glass bowl. you are well on your way.
We are all assuming that the hotel room has a fridge?

  • Love Amy's also!!!
  • My non-cooking diet for when I am extremely busy / lazy / preoccupied with other things:

    -Pre-washed organic greens

-Cherry tomatoes (you don't even need to slice them and they keep well)

-Amy's frozen entrees, especially burritos and Texas veggie burgers, which make a meal when paired with a salad

-Any fruit that does not need to be peeled / sliced

-Granola bars, particularly small, chewy ones with a high concentration of good calories and nutrients (the hard, crunchy ones are a lot of effort to eat, and tend to shatter crumbs everywhere if you're not careful, which you then have to sweep)

    -Almonds (unsalted)

-Soups and chilis (Amy's low-sodium variety especially)

-Canned chick peas tossed with any kind of dressing (makes a yummy salad)

    -Take-out sushi -- mmm

-Whole grain pita breads and spicy hummus dip. Go easy on the hummus tho; mega (good) calories.

-Hot sauce, the spicier the better. Lots of zing for very few calories.

You'd only need a set of cutlery, a tupperware container/bowl, and a can opener for all the foods listed above.

Lean Cuisine is my favorite (avoid the spa cuisine line in the light blue box.....I don't like ANY of them!)

Healthy Choice tends to taste bland, but the chicken basil panini is pretty good

Smart Ones have some good choices
  • Progresso has a soup in a can and two servings of it is only 180 calories.
