Hi! I'm new to this website. I'm 21 years old, and I'm not actually "overweight". I WAS overweight in high school though, and it took me a good 4 years to lose a majority of it. Now I'm stuck in this little rut where I have an alright body but I want an amazing one!!! I need to do more cardio to bust this fat on my thighs and stomach! once that's gone, I know it'll be awesome!
But getting rid of those LAST 10-15 lbs is SO HARD. I'm a very active person, I ride horses 6-7 days a week along with rigorous work at the barn (throwing bales of hay and lifting other heavy things) so I have to add even MORE to my workout! :-p
Also- I have a bad left knee, so it's very difficult for me to run/put pressure on my joints. Kiinnddd of limits my options. BUT, I think I'm gonna try and start power walking, and if that goes well I'll add in some jogging!

Well that was long winded! If anyone has any advice/good cardio exercises for me to do (or any good workout DVD's you may love!) let me know!!! Glad to be a part of this site! it's very helpful :-D

We sound a lot alike! Also working on my last 10lbs that seem to be taking forever to get rid of! I just finished ChaLEAN Extreme and it helped me lose 10lbs and 21 inches plus I have some muscle taking away that fat! Still have a ways to go. I highly suggest that program, it's amazing. I am starting Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. I have heard a lot of good things a bout it so maybe that would work too! I'd love to help ya with anything you may need:)

Welcome & you will find the best support here!

Congrats on making it so far! I would love to be struggling with my last 10. If you have access to a gym, maybe using the elliptical would work for your knee? I had some knee problems earlier this year and my doctor told me to use that.

Hi horseryder77, welcome to the site. I'm also trying to lose the last 10 lbs and finding it very difficult, although I AM a huge amount older than you! Why don't you get yourself a bicycle and cycle to and from the barn, so long as your knee doesn't hurt? That'll soon tone those thighs up and shrink the stomach as you lose a huge amount of calories cycling and it doesn't seem so much like exercise when you're actually going somewhere for a purpose.

I broke my right leg really badly in a riding accident in October (the horse fell on me) and I have found swimming and cycling to be the best forms of therapy, so much so that I only needed 3 weeks of physical therapy much to my surgeon and therapist's amazement. I'm totally addicted to cycling now. And yes, I've been back riding now for three months!

    Good luck!

What a cute smile you have! I am on my last 10-15 too. This is really the hardest part. I look ok now...but...I want to look great. Also am alot older then you so kudos to you for doing this now. It'll be alot easier when your older if you are already fit.

Chalean extreme is a workout dvd program by beach body kind of like P90x or Insanity. I agree about the elliptical, great calorie burner, but easy on the joints

Wow!!! That's awesome that you only needed 3 weeks!! I do cycle around campus quite a bit (I'm still a college student) but I haven't tried cycling to the barn. The only problem with that is cycling BACK. Because I'm normally at the barn from whenever I get there (which can range from 8 in the morning to 4 o clock in the afternoon) for about 4-9 hours. There are some days where I have to feed twice (afternoon grain/hay/water, along with evening hay/water) and ride two horses. Sometimes I don't get done till it's dark out.. that's the only huge problem for me as far as biking there. Annnddd, sometimes it peaks in the 90s here, that's not fun biking weather lol.

BUT, thank you for the advice! I'm aware that I tend to be long winded, lol.. but I think I will definitely try this on a "light" day, where I maybe only have to ride my horse. (Oh and I event, so it's pretty intense riding. From you picture it looks like you ride dressage, so you get what I'm saying :) )

And for the other people- I used to have access to an elliptical before they decided to close the gym in my apartment complex. Now I have to find other ways until they're finished "updating" it. (I don't have much money on me, so I try to stick to things like dvds and outdoor activities.)
Thank you all for being so supportive :-D

I know it's really hard to cycle when you're tired, but it's twice as difficult to 'work out' when you're tired. So what will you do? Drive home and work out, or alternatively veg out OR buy some lights for your bike and have to cycle home because you have no choice as it's the only way you can get home. Then you've done your exercise, saved the planet and you can 'veg out' with no problem! Plus the added bonus of eating the extra calories it gives you.

It also get hot here (I live in Hawaii), too hot to cycle, but I find that if I drink about three glasses of water before I leave home, drink as much water as my bike can carry while I"m out, plus stop for a breather in the shade if necessary, it's no big deal. Just make sure you hydrate constantly.

Yes, I do primarily ride dressage, but you won't be jumping every day as even eventers need to practice their flatwork (which sometimes I find just as challenging as jumping!). As you say, maybe choose a day when you only have one horse to ride and less barn duties and see how you get on. I have to also say that if you can get yourself a nice fast lightweight racing bike (there's always good second hand deals going on campus) you're going to enjoy cycling so much more. I couldn't believe the difference between a $150 bike and a $700 bike. All of a sudden biking became incredible easy!

you bring up good points :) Yeah maybe I'll give that a try... unfortunately I don't have the money for a better bike. The one I have (just to get me around campus) cost me about 50 bucks at walmart, haha. But, I will definitely give it a try one of these days. Thank you for the tip :)
Oh and yes-I only jump my horses every other week, I normally do flat work more than anything else. I feel that it's an excellent way to keep both your mind and body engaged in the exercise you're doing. And it really helps for when you DO end up jumping.

Thans again for the advice, I will definitely try it soon :)
