I need advice..

So me and my friend have decided to do the 10k Race For Life this year. We've never done it before and I'm gonna need to buy new sports gear - Which isn't gonna be cheap!

I only ever wear converses or pumps! So I need to know which trainers I should go for. Velcro or laces? Also I need to know what sort of trainers I should go for!

I'm from the UK so I need to know where I can get a good sports bra from! Also, what leggings or bottoms should I get?!

Sorry to keep waffling on!

Chelsea x

Can't help with the trainers but for the sports bra either go to a Bravissimo shop or you can order from them onlline. I have a Shock Absorber which is a purple and turquoise thing but it works and I'm in the largest boobalina size they do....so an indication as to how good it has to be!

nylon leggins will make you sweat more i think so they will be better as you will sweat out water but keep your self hydrated.
look for running shoes in any sport shop and make sure they are comfortable before you buy them x

Sports Direct - If you want a cheaper but still good running trainer this is where you should go and where im about to go to get my new shoes for my 10k lol. There is a machine in their running section which you step on which will tell you your arch type and give you a colour then all the running labels there have different colour feet so you can see which trainer will be best for your feet. They sell good running shoes but often last years designs so they are reduced considerably :)

    Good Luck :)

You don't need to spend a fortune on gym stuff- get along to sports direct, the gym fleece I got from there is virtually indestructible and still looks good after about 50 washes - they also do loads of running trainers at reasonable prices - also amazon is great for good prices on nicer trainers like asics. Sainsbury have a good range of sports gear in moisture wicking material and it is nice quality.

    Hi

Firstly, well done for doing the race for life and good look with it :)

I always buy my trainers from a local (small) sports shop as they make you try on different types of trainer to see what suits you best.
I wear 'Shock Absorber' sports bras as they go up to larger sizes and provide good support and are really comfy. You can get those from Debenhams or online.
I wear the lycra style/stretchy tight fitting running trousers - 3/4 length in the gym/summer and full length when running outside in the UK winter :)

Places like Sports Direct/Sports World will sell everything you need. They have a 'She runs, He runs' (or something like that!) section which has a lot of running gear.

    I hope that helps!

    :)

I always have used Sports Direct for the sports bra, and bought the Lonsdale bras. You can pick them up pretty inexpensive, and even better for you if you have larger cup sizes (like me). They're probably not the best, and I've never used any others - but I have found they work for me.

As for trainers - do what you feel, considering it's down to preference. Personally, I just run in my DC's (I really need some new shoes!), which have laces.

agree with everyone here...definately shock absorber...iv'e tried several sports bras and the shock absorber is the best...highly recommend it....go online though got mine through amazon which was cheapest at the time. Sports Direct definately. Get trainers designed for running...they support your feet much better. I started running and had shin problems until I changed my trainers to running ones...was just wearing gym ones before. Good luck :o)

It depends how much support you need. I need a shock absorber Level 4 which I usually get from Figleaves - they do free returns which is ace. I think they are £23ish at the minute

And for bottoms, try Sainsburys. They have a range of moisture wicking sportswear (keeps the moisture away from the skin) I paid around £10 for bottoms. I wear the foldover top yoga type ones for most of my gym & cardio work. And for pilates.

Trainers is personal preference. My favourites are K-Swiss Tubes run 100's which are nice and comfy for walking, running & gym. I got mine from Amazon and have another pair on my birthday list

They are UK sports bra specialists, and I find the reviews on their site really useful. If you know exactly what size and make you want, ebay is often cheaper as you can get discontinued colours, seconds, etc.

I have never found that Shock Absorbers suit me. My favourite sports bra at the moment is the Panache sports bra. It's very comfortable to wear and gives a good outline under clothes (not a monoboob like some bras!). The Freya underwired sports bra is my second favourite. Less Bounce has an offer on some of the colours at the moment, if you can find them in your size. I find that Freya and Panache sports bras are fine for everyday wear as well as active wear, so you get plenty of wear out of them!

Good luck with Race For Life!

For shoes I love my Merrill barefoot shoes but everyone is different.

    Hi Chelsea,

Asics in Oxford Circus near Niketown does a shoe fitting test to know your arch type/ pronation etc etc
They cost £20 if you don't buy a pair of running shoes from them and it's free if you do.

Just as every run is unique, so every running shoe is designed for a specific type of runner.

You should look into visiting a specialist runner's store to get fitted for footwear. You need something that is going to support you and be comfortable and which works with your foot shape and gait. Everyone is different in this regard.

For clothes, just wear what you are comfortable in. Personally I prefer lycra 3/4 pants and a vest or t-shirt. I usually get workout clothes from TK Maxx where you can get decent clothing for reasonable prices.

Things you need to spend decent money on: proper fitted trainers, and a good sports bra (I shop at Less Bounce, and also recommend the Shock Absorber 'run' bra).

Things you don't need to spend loads of dosh on: tech t-shirts and bottoms. If Sports Direct don't have what you like, Aldi and Lidl often stock tech t-shirts and socks at bargain prices.

Tk Max do the shock absorber brand pretty cheap.
I got gait analysis done in elverys I don't know if you have them in the UK? The staff are really well trained about foot wear. And I like to run in three quarter length cotton pants and a Pennys (primark) tshirt.
