Help

My husband needs help his calories from MFP has him set at 1880 calories. Fit2Fat has him set at 2464 for lightly active which he is a school teacher and probably should be considered moderate.He was only eating about 1500 to 1700 calories. He lost 10 lbs on the 1500 to 1700 but now has gained 7 of them back.He upped his calories to 1800 but never going over 1850.Help should he eat more ,less? His stats age 29,height 68 inches and weighs 187 lbs wants to be around 170 lbs. Any help appreciated.

    Is he eating above his BMR? Or was he eating below it for any extended amount of time? If you go below what your basal metabolic rate is, your body will hold onto fat, because it thinks it starving. The trick is to keep above BMR, but below maintenance calories. It sounds like he stalled and gained, something that can happen if you under eat, so maybe that's why. You can find a BMR calc online, they vary by about 100 cals from each one, but they're essentially similar.

    Use this calculator to make sure he's getting enough, and the closer he is to his goal weight, keep in mind the slower he needs to lose weight too. If he still tries to create a large cal deficit when there's not a lot of weight to lose, the body can hold onto fat as well for the same reason, even if its above the BMR.
  • No his BMR is 1897 according to fit2fat. So should he eat at least 2000 maybe?
