heart rate monitor or pedometer

Does anyone have any opinion about which is better? I basically want a rough idea of how many calories I'm burning in a day, and some indication of how much I've moved, for motivation. Any favorites out there?

I have a heart rate monitor that syncs to my Nike Sportswatch GPS but I don't wear it all day long, just when I exercise or go on a long walk. Heart rate is a really accurate way to figure out how many calories you are burning.0

honestly, it sounds more like a fitbit would be a better, well... fit.0

Id say the heart rate monitor, I have a Polar FT4 , tells you how hard your working, where you need to be, calories burned and takes into account your age, weight, gender etc.
I had a pedometer but it was lousy - it would add several steps here and there and sometimes not pick anything up.0 -
Fitbit product! Sync it to your MFP0

I'm a fan of Garmin's Forerunner series because they're great for running and biking. I use the chest-strap HRM and use a formula and an Excel page to log my calories burned.0

HRM is more accurate and a little more expensive. I have a fitbit zip, only $60, but I know it's not completely accurate, especially with the calories that I burn doing weights. But it's nice that it syncs to MFP and it's a good motivator; it makes me get up and move more to try and reach 10,000 steps a day.0

Thanks everyone.0
