My numbers come from a nutritionist with supervision of my primary doctor.
  • Oh right.. Do I need to ask my doc?

MFP sets it up for you, and then you sort of tweek it as the days go by. I put that I want to lose 2 pounds a week, with a sedentary life style. So, it's telling me to eat 1300 calories a day to do that.

    I suggest reading this...

In my experience, MFP sets calories far too low! Sure, living off 1200 starts weightloss but it is not a good way to eat for a long period of time.

All you need to do is eat less than what would maintain your weight.

If you can log some common eating days of normal diet, and you weren't really gaining anymore, you nailed it.

Or, eat normal diet and start exercising.

You gained slow, so don't think fast lost is going to work well.

I started with MFP calculations but after a while I adjusted them more accurately by going here:

    http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/

Using the tools on that page will help you to really figure out exactly what you should be eating. If you already have an accurate body fat percentage you can jump right to the BMR calulation.

    http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr/

Otherwise, just start at the top of the page and you can figure all that out too.

I found that MFP was a good starting point but after a while it was telling me to eat too little.

    Good luck!!!

well im pretty new to this too, but, isnt this site/app is made for this reason? you fill out your data, your activity and ect ect and it gives you calculation how many calories you need a day. and if you exercise it will calculate on there too.

Might find it interesting. Change the bodyfat% on that BMR tool - the eating table doesn't change at all.
They help you calculate your BF%, ask for it, display the BMR based on it - but don't use it in any math.

It's because of their intended use, eating for goal weight.
  • Thanks for all your help on this ;)
