Beach Body MLM

Run rampant on this site. You think you've met someone who sincerely cares about you and your weight loss journey. They ask about your kids, your life and etc. You think you've made a friend and then BAM - they want you to have them as your "Coach" on Beach Body where you will need to get a paid membership and they will get a cut of your membership fees and any products you buy which of course they will tell you you need. :explode:
If feels like a betrayal because it is. I came here to find support and friendship.
If you pretend to like me, and then a couple days later suggest you become my "Coach" on BB you were never my friend to begin with. All you cared about was your MLM scheme. I hope there are sincere people out there who really are here as a support group and not just people out to sell me something.
BTW, it is the "Success Stories" section where they are. I think Beach Body tells them exactly what to do. To post before and after photos and everyone goes 'wow, great job" and then they friend you and go in for the kill.

I've been on BB since January. It's an awesome site. Just as good as MFP. The two go together quite nicely, I think. And it is TOTALLY FREE! Unless, you want to upgrade for like $2.99 a month or something. However, I am good with the freebie. I've been asked a couple times to become a coach. That is how they make money. They don't make a dime off you joining the site. I have found that most of the BB coaches are completely genuine and want you to succeed regardless of your exercise needs or advancement. In fact, when you join a group or comment on a thread, multiple coaches are there for you to give great advice.
I hear what your saying and there probably are people that prey on MFP members, but I am sure there are a ton of BB coaches on here wanting to give genuine support regardless if you join "their team" or not. I'd say, its really not a big deal - unless they pressure you.
One thing to keep in mind - if you join BB.com - they force you to have a coach anyway (so, why not go with someone you know - like one of your MFP friends?). Again, I don't think they make anything off you, unless you become a coach too and or join the paid membership.
Really not a big deal!0 -
That's awful! And here I am doing P90X. Well you can be assured that I have no intentions of becoming a "coach." I like the community here and that's where I'll stay. So even though we're not friends, know that there is at least one (and I'm sure thousands) other person on MFP that is not trying to be your coach.0

I tend to err on the side of caution with all internet relationships. That completely removes any chance that I will get disappointed or taken advantage of. Digital fronts leave a lot to be desired if you are looking for "true" friends and maybe you shouldn't expect so much. I don't know much about Beach Body, but I do understand that they are sells people, first and foremost. Why can't you just accept the friendly conversation, politely say no, and move on to the next person? No need to get offended.0

Not offended and I know all that stuff about internet relationships which is why I try to keep my FB acct to ONLY real friends and family. I never felt like this was going to be a real relationship but I can feel offended that someone pretended to be so interested in my life and etc and was only trying to sell me something. It's not about knowing when to say no - and I never said yes - I figured it out fairly quickly by looking at the link she sent me. However, I have to right to warn people. Not everyone is savvy, many are gullible and need to be protected. This is My Fitness Pal right? This is not beachbody.com0

This woman asked for me to add her as a FB friend. Now I seriously weeded out almost everyone last year when I decided to only have close friends and family on FB. So I wasn't completely comfortable but I was online and she started chatting with me. And then asked me to have her as my coach. She sent me a link with her name in the coach line. I had to take my son to tennis but was thinking about the whole "coach" thing. When I got home I had another look at the link and realized it was an MLM thing. I like BB, but I prefer to buy on my own with my own research than buy something from someone who I know will make money off my buying something. And I am a member of BB. I can go on there and look for things or ideas. Since joining the community last week (or becoming serious as I think I joined a long time ago!) , she was my 1st friend. I made a 2nd friend but unfortunately, with her "before and after" pictures, I think she also is a BB coach.0

I can understand the cynicism and feeling targeted, but try to lighten up. I haven't once been approached by someone on MFP asking to be my coach, and I can always say no thanks. The people who are coaches are by and large people who have gone through hard weight loss struggles and truly do know how to get the best out of BB products. Yes they may be trying to add a small amount of residual income to their lives, but I don't doubt that they have a sincere desire to help. The amount of money they make off people joining is quite small and many become coaches just to get a discount on the products they're already buying. Not everyone is a crook or out to scam you out of your money or offer you insincere friendship.0

So what's so wrong about someone changing their life and finding a way to make money on it?
I know a BB coach who was able to quit his job and stay home with his 3 children & wife. He genuinely cares about the people under him and god forbid, he makes money off of it. The nerve of some people
There are crappy ones but many that I have come in contact with, are genuinely good people and enjoy helping others
Not to mention, the products work0 -
If you go on the Team Beach Body site you'll be bombarded with the coaches coming after you. I'm all for people changing their lives and making extra income (from the programs, supplements, equipment you buy on the site but not the membership) but it can be a big overwhelming with the over zealous coaches.0

Yeah, not a fan. I think I have a coach on my FL, but they've not pushed anything on me so far. I can always spot them by looking at their profiles. They always talk in the bio about how BB changed their lives...
Don't need any overpriced meal replacement shakes, thanks. Nobody's got time for that.0 -
I have just finished insanity and haven't even been on the BB website - never had a coach, don't plan to become a coach, ignore all the recommendations of shakeology (I have my own preferred 'recovery' drink & foods)
But I still think BB is awesome for helping me get where I am.
I also have to agree with the above comment about it being someones job though - and if you can make money by doing something you love, why not? Isn't that what we all strive for?
That said, I don't agree with someone befriending you and then trying to 'push' it onto you - that's not coaching, that's being pushy :-)0
