I'm doing Insanity right now and then I'm going to do p90x right afterwards. I looked in the exercise database and couldn't find any search results for any of the beachbody exercises. I know that people that do these exercises use myfitnesspal.com I was wondering If I'm overlooking something. Can someone tell me how they input these exercises into their workout log. I just typed in Insanity Max plyo and guessed I burned about 700 cal. in the 59min. workout.

Does anybody that is doing either Insanity or p90x have any suggestions for me?

Mike

I use the Create New Exercise option and just input each exercise like this:

    Insanity - Max Cardio Circuit

    or

    P90X - Cardio X
    P90X - Shoulders & Arms

BUT I also wear a heart rate monitor so I know what I burn

The best option is to invest in a HRM as the calorie burn can vary dramatically. I can burn 400 calories on one of the max workouts, but only 280 on the month 1 workouts. Whereas someone taller and bigger than me could burn anywhere from 600-1000 calories. Big difference.

Get a HRM and custom log.
  • Hey Mike,
Also Mike here. Have done P90X for a year, switched to Insanity for the full 60 and am now doing a combo. For myself, with the heart rate monitor, I generally burn between 450 to 800 depending. The Yoga stuff on here is pretty accurate though for your yoga days and the Karate option is also pretty accurate for Kenpo X days. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips everyone, I'm going to have to invest in a heart rate monitor in the near future, but for now I think I'll round it off to a safe number based on what ya'll told me. I'm around 6'2" 192lbs so for 60min I'm going to guess 450 cal.

What heart rate monitor do you use? I feel like they will get in the way and be very uncomfortable for the duration of the workout. Do any of the heart rate monitors keep track of how many calories burned during the entire workout or do you manually have to add up the numbers (basically is it simple to use lol).

hey there, polar is your best choose in heart rate monitors, it counts all the calories you burn during a workout & no they are not uncomfortable..... you have a watch and a band that goes around your chest that picks up your heart rate. best of luck with P90x n insanity, ah yes they are simple to use
