Heart Rate Monitors & IFit

I currently started working to get back into shape. I bought the T5.5 Nordictrack Treadmill and noticed the built in heart rate isn't consistent. So I am trying to find a good one that will help me track how many calories I burn and anything else that might be helpful to keep me on track. Also wondering if anyone uses the Ifit program and how they like it. Thanks for any advice you can give.

    I love the Polar FT40 hrm I recently bought.

    My elliptical (also recently puchased) is iFit ready, but I don't want to pay the $5/month for the ifit website to send my elliptical workouts.

    So Ifit has a $5 monthly fee? Is that after the first year free subscription or is that on top of it?
