The staff is not friendly at all. The gym I go to close at 9, I wish it was a 24 hr gym. (6)

I don't go to the gym any more BUT I had thought about re-joining - the thing I don't like is the equipment isn't fancy & new, it is rather small so it's always packed. The 24 hour gyms around here are brand new & great looking but they don't have a creche :grumble:

I go to Anytime, so it's always open, which I love. I really like the lady that is there during the day, and her son...my trainer. I like that they are OCD about being clean there, and that it's not usually crowded. I DON'T like that there is only one power cage, so i might have to wait to do my squats, etc....if it's busy in that corner.

My gym sells bottled cold water, but don't have a chilled water dispenser. If you don't bring your own cold water (not always possible) you have to buy theirs or fill your bottle from the bathroom sink.

Some would probably see this is a good thing... my gym is always EMPTY.. like you could hear a pin drop and when I do go I feel like I'm on display for the old man behind the desk..

I love Anytime Fitness! I just wish they had more than one shower! :)

Thankfully I won't need to use the two showers. They are dirty! Looks like they haven't been cleaned in months. Gross! Everything else seems to be clean. Anytime Fitness.

I go to the gym at my university. I mostly love it, but I think they could take out a couple of stair machines or bikes and put in more squat racks! There are three, and two of them are usually being occupied by some people doing some circuit stuff, so you never know when they're free. Just 2-3 more squat racks would be awesome, and a few more Roman chairs, although I'm not sure if the Roman chair is really standard gym equipment. The only other gym I went to was one where I was supposed to get a 30-day free trial and I met with a personal trainer who said my goal weight was "still fat" and I should strive to be a size 2-3 (I guess he thought anything above a 2-3 was fat? I told him I wanted to be a 6-8) and he chewed tobacco while talking to me. Way to sell the membership... not.

If anyone else is showering, the hot water dies. Also, the water pressure changes slightly when someone flushes the toilets which isn't so bad but it kind of makes me feel like I'm being flushed on.

Also, there is a small tribe of meathead juicers who congregate around the squat racks so that they can pretend they're working out. The Alpha male amongst them works there so complaining would be pointless.

I would still b!tch to somebody, but I complain about a lot of things at my gym (i.e. people not wiping down machines when they finish) so maybe I just complain too much

As I work at a university, I go to the university gym. I think the thing that frustrates me most is the number of people who simply seem to use it as a social networking session and sit on the equipment without using it. Seriously people, there's a uni pub and multiple cafe's 2 minutes walk away if you want to catch up with your friends and have a chat.

Also, the creepy old men who decide they want to chat to me when I'm in the middle of running on the treadmill. I have my earphones on when I'm doing cardio. I've had one guy come up beside the treadmill, and try to pull the earphone out of my ear because he wanted to chat while he worked out. Dude...Seriously? No. Firstly, that's actually dangerous to do something like that when someone's running. Secondly, I had headphones on - meaning I'm not interested in conversation. Thirdly, you are a creepy, creepy old man who needs to stop blatantly hitting on all the females in the gym.

They're my only real complaints. The staff are fantastic and really highly trained and educated in sports/fitness/nutrition (unsurprisingly since it's a university gym). There's a good range of equipment. The opening hours are good for me as a staff member. And it's not overpriced.
