When I eat carbs at night, I tend to have a better lifting session the next morning. I didn't read the story you read yet! Just my experience.

I didn't read the article you posted but I can tell you as much: when I was 16, I was a little chubby. Not overweight, but I needed to lose some pounds in order to swim faster (I used to play waterpolo). The doctor didn't give me a specific diet- the only thing he said was: "eat carbs for lunch and proteins for dinner. Do not touch any of the FOUR P's (Pane-bread-, Piazza, Potatoes, Pasta) in the evening." I did as I was told and, together with my waterpolo training, I slowly lost a lot of weight! Plus it is well-known that carbs in the evening is a no-no! Carbs are supposed to give you energy, so why eating them at night if you are going to hit the bed? I now run and train for races and live by the same rule: nice amount of carbs for lunch so that I'll have the energy to run in the evening and a protein-packed dinner to allow my muscles to recover after my training. The only exception? When I have a long run in the morning- then I'll eat my carbs at night so that I'll have some energy stored for when I wake up in the morning to hit the road (I run on an empty stomach in the morning).
