PROTEIN filled snacks

So, I have noticed I need to increase my protein intake. I know I am most likely going to start get a Protein Powder/Shake to help supplement but...

Are there any Protein filled snacks I could add...using Clean Eating as a guideline? I have a few of the Fiber One protein bars as I am not completely clean eating, just trying to gradually ease into it.

THANKS!!!

As far as natural "clean", or semi-clean foods, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, nuts, edamame, or lean meats work well. If you are using protein powder; you can make shakes, mug cakes, brownies, puddings, muffins, or pies.

Nuts, seeds, natural nut butters, eggs, lean meats, legumes/beans, cottage cheese, greek yogurt. I noticed my steel cut oats even have a good dose of protein - Bob's Red Mill brand gives you 7 grams of protein per 1/4 cup serving! Nature Valley now makes a protein bar that's supposed to be "all natural" and has 10g of protein.

I also wanted to up my protein and I just used protein powder for the first time today. I added it to oatmeal for breakfast with a few raisins, milk, and cinnamon. It was sooooo good!

I've been vegetarian for almost 3 years and eat between 130-175g of protein a day. Feel free to check out my diary for ideas.

You should also watch out for other parameters that come with protein-high snacks. in addition to what others said, jerky can also be alright, but watch the sodium!

Greek yogurt, nuts, chicken (I like to cook it in buffalo wing sauce for flavor - and low cals), cottage cheese, string cheese, jerky.

I really like taking a Laughing Cow cheese wedge and wrapping a slice of proscuitto around it - 12g of protein for 130 cals isn't too bad (other snacks are better, but this is good for variety).

Also, if you're getting protein powder, here's something I like to make: Put half a scoop of powder in a bowl and add a small amount of water. Stir to make a slurry. Then, stir in 1 small container of plain greek yogurt. Voila! High protein flavored yogurt! I use Body Fortress from Walmart (because I'm cheap) and Dannon Oikos (because it's only 80 cals for 15g of protein) - so the whole snack is 150 cals for 28g of protein.

I wanted to up my protein intake as well. Just started taking protein shakes. I can chug pretty much anything so I don't bother to make it taste good.

I make turkey muffins on the weekend, throw them in the freezer and just reheat when I want a snack. Around 85 calories and 13g of protein for 1. I also make green smoothies with protein powder.

One of my favorites (along with a bunch already mentioned) is cans of Tuna. A little fat free mayo (mean a little), salsa, or hot sauce added to it and it is great! 100 Cals, 2Gs Fat, 22Gs Protein, 0 Carbs. Nutrition content based off of Chicken of the Sea Albacore Tuna in water (I eat it plain).

I love it too! It actually tastes pretty good - and a friend had some stuff from GNC that she paid $40 for. Mine had less cals and more protein. I'm sure some could argue the ingredients, but I'm fine with cheap and filling.

Body Fortress is actually what I was looking at getting for Protein Powder. It is GREAT getting all these ideas on how to add it into things. I heard putting it in coffee helps with flavoring it and limits the extra from the creamer. Not sure I'll do that but...

I just have to be careful with yogurt and the extra sugars that usually come with it. Sugar is not good for me and my system.Natural sugars are one thing but added sugars wreak HAVOC on my levels and such.

I like cottage cheese mixed with peanut butter, protein shakes made with pineapple, vanilla powder, and dasani drops coconut pineapple (tastes like a pina colada!), greek yogurt w/ a little sweetener or sugar free jello pudding mix (a little dry mix goes a long way), Polly O cheese sticks, those are my favorites!

In addition to nuts, I have discovered dry roasted edamame. SOOOO good. It has a TON more protein than nuts, too, and it is very "snacky" so you feel like you're cheating when you're not. LOL :)

There are several threads on here about different protein shake recipes. I have also seen a few on mug cakes, and brownies. (Don't expect them to taste like the real thing, though.) Bodybuilding.com, bodyforlife.com, and a few other sites have some decent recipes, though.

Puddings, and pies, are pretty simple. get a package of sugar free instant pudding, and make according to package directions. To serve 4 add in 4 scoops of protein powder. If you want pie, put it in a reduced fat graham cracker crust. (some powders will need more milk, some will take less than the package calls for. Usually for whey, you may want to add less milk.)

I've made my own pie crusts by blending up fiber one graham cereal, and baking it with a few egg whites, and that has turned out pretty good, too.

As far as microwavable cakes, my favorite is a molten lava cake: 1 scoop chocolate protein. 1 heaping tbsp cocoa powder, 1 dash of baking powder, 1 egg white, sweetener to taste. add enough water to make it the consistency of cake batter,(depending on the powder you use, usually around 1/8 of a cup), microwave 25 to 35 seconds(depending on microwave.) It should still be fairly runny in the middle.

I've learned a lot through experimentation. Some things work well, others don't. Protein powder can be a little tricky, especially when cooking with them. (I've made hot cocoa with it before, and sometimes it is clumpy, sometimes it turns out fine.)
