I haven't changed what I am doing but now I am gaining...

I don't know what is going on.... I am doing the same thing I have been doing. I am watching what I eat, staying under calories almost every day, walking, running and some strength training but I have gained this week. I don't mean a 1/2 pound or a little bit either, I mean 3 pounds! I am really freaked out....HELP!!!

Yes, you need to eat back your exercise calories, or at least most of them and then you should start to drop weight again. I know it feels strange but eat the extra cals, just try to make them healthy choices like nuts, nut butter, avocados etc.

I thought the point was to be in a calorie deficit. This is so confusing to me!

The 'point' of this is to get that number as close to zero as possible.

Also, you haven't gained 3lb of fat in a week. It is going to be water retention, and if you do it right it will come off as quickly as it went on.
  • The calories MFP gives you already put you in a deficit.

Whenever you change your diet (i.e. adding more calories) or change your workout plan (i.e. lifting weights) you are bound to hold on to some water. Totally normal and expected. Move on and keep at it. It will be gone before you know it.
