Work outs with a broken foot?

Hi there -
I broke my 5th metatarsal 2 weeks ago. I'm in a walking boot and have been instucted to use crutches and a knee scooter for the next 6 weeks. It was a complete break - so the orthopedist wants me totally off the foot.

Any suggestions for workouts while I'm healing up?

I found a fun 'chair' workout online which uses my arm and my non-injured foot. I do get a bit of a work out when I'm pushing the scooter thru the office or using my crutches. I've heard some people recommend swimming, but I'm not sure if that would keep my foot 'immobile' enough. It's the top right part of the foot that is broken - so I can't put pressure on or move my toes.

THANK YOU!

  • there's a woman in my spin class who has been coming and doing a a lower intensity workout while wearing her walking cast --- I don't know if she broke her foot or her leg, but her doctor said that spin would be okay --- I would come up with a list of possibilities, and then run them by your doctor
