Water question... kinda a strange one

I hate water and hardly ever drink any. An average day for me is 3 cups coffee with creamer and splenda and diet soda maybe 3 - 4 cups. I have kept myself very dehydrated for years. Now that I am trying very hard to drink water will I gain weight because my body just wants to soak it up?????

The more water you drink the less water you retain. Your body doesn't feel the need to hold onto it when you give it what it wants. Bottoms up!0

I'm not a nutritionist... but... I think you will actually lose weight. If you have been depriving your body of water for a long period of time then it naturally holds a lot of "water weight". If you start drinking a lot of water on a regular basis, your body does not retain that much and you lose the water weight. :flowerforyou:0

your body needs water to function properly..the more water you drink the less water you will retain..I find the more water I drink the more I crave it...0

My experience is that I loose because my body flushes out toxins. When you don't drink enough, you retain water to preserve. Once your body recognizes that it is getting steady water it will let go. Within a week of steady hydration I would imagine you will loose weight. I'm currently hydrating too. I notice that I have to urinate a lot and that is a sign that toxins are being flushed out. I think the main thing that would put you at risk for retaining would be taking in a lot of sodium (salt retains water). Hope this helps...0

You may find yourself at first a few pounds heavier than when you weren't drinking your water, but your body will soon adjust to the amounts you drink and will either use, or get rid of it when it is not needed. The water weight that you may gain, is the reason why most people weigh themselves in the morning before breakfast but after they go to the bathroom.

Water can help you lose weight as I have heard. It also will help you feel fuller if you drink a glass before meals so you will eat less. If plain water is not for you add fresh lemons, limes, or blend with ice and green tea.0

Thanks everyone I was just wondering. I really want to get up to 8 glassed as soon as I can. I don't care if I do gain a few because of it because I know it is good for me. This journey isn't all about the number on the scale it is about changing my lifestyle so I can be proud of it and become healthy. The weight loss and body will fallow! thanks!0

Yeah. I've read that the general guideline is 64oz, plus an additional 8 for every 25 pounds that a person is overweight. It can add up fast and get overwhelming. I've got a lot of weight to lose, so I have been drinking a 32oz bottle of water with every meal and 8 oz before bed with medications...0

I am also a cronic non-water drinker... I hate the stuff. I've gotten myself up to 6 glasses a day. I have a timer on my phone that goes off every 20 minutes to remind me to take a drink. I have found it works a lot better then other times I've tried to increase my water intake and would guzzle a glass or two a couple times a day... that would always just make me have to pee lots! With just taking one drink every 20 minutes I haven't had to increase my trips to the bathroom or had to wake up in the middle of the night to go.

I agree with everyone.. your body needs the water.
I don't think of it as 8 glasses of water... I think of it as 4 water bottles
I drink more than that, usually, but it doesn't seem quite so much this way...
(and I still have my coffee in the morning)0 -

I feel the other replies all got it right, esp the lemons idea. I've traditionally not been a big H20 drinker either & lemons helped me get started since I felt I needed flavor. For some weird reason drinking out of a bottle helps too: If I squeeze the water in, I can drink cups a few cups at a time with no problem, give me a glass and it may sit all day sometimes. So, I suggest trying that (doesn't have to be bought bottles, I just keep refilling one I keep at work on my desk as they have a water cooler, and at home I use a Brita filter). And (since I found myself still not drinking much at home...), I've also for the past few weeks stopped buying myself any other drinks so that at home I'm forced to drink water. I've dropped a few lbs in these past few weeks too. [Something else that's forcing me to drink more is my allergies - I'm trying to deal with them w/o medicine and drinking lots of water helps with that. ] Sorry for the length. Good luck!0 -
I found at first I gained, then I started losing, but I lost inches right away. I didn't realize how bloated I was from not drinking until I started, it is still a struggle to get it in.0

I'm inclined to be naughty about drinking enough water.
I've found that keeping a 750ml bottle of water on my desk at work encourages the habit of drinking water--a sip every now and then and ta-da! before I realise it I've had 3 glasses I just bought the one bottled water and now I refill it from the water cooler at work.
I also like rooibos or green tea with no milk/cream or sugar/sweetner.0 -
Rhonnie, Thanks that is a great suggestion. I have been drinking 16oz. of water at a time and yes my trips to the bathroom have increased!! I will have to try to spread it out.
