I would say water only no additives the clear stuff. Most additives have almost the same chemical compound that is in soda but not carbonated fwiw.

Pretty much just water, or unsweetened tea counts as water. Coffee, soda, high sweetened juices all contain water but they don't hydrate you like water. Coffee and soda dehydrates you. And sweetened juices have higher osmolarity than your plasma.

Personally, I only count water and I've cut out the pop to make room for 'just' water rather than filling up with chemicals.

3wks in and I must say, i do feel better for it!

All liquids count as long as your pee runs light yellow.

    Count everything.

Your body takes hydration from everything you eat and drink. That salad you eat for lunch.. that coffee you had on the way to work, etc. Sure, coffee, pop and tea do contain caffiene however the dehydrating effects are not more than the hydrating affects.

Just stay hydrated. As long as your pee ISN'T dark or funky, you're fine.

Oops, edit to fix a major typo that is important!

I wouldn't count anything with high sugar or caffeine content.

I count my tea as water.

I mean, it's just water with some leaves chucked in it. :P

I personally think that water from fruit and veges can also be counted as part of your water intake.

However, on days I go to the gym I easily get to my 8 glasses of water anyway.

    that's a ridiculous assertion.

all liquids count if you're talking about hydration. foods with liquid content count too. the diuretic effect of tea or coffee is miniscule unless you drink a lot of caffeine.

why is this not common sense? :frown:

Because of common misconceptions going around.

Basically we need to take in the equivalent of 8 cups of water each day, but out body is pretty good at getting that water out of fruit and vegetables.

I haven't really looked into coffee before because I don't drink coffee, I drink tea, but I don't see why my tea can't count, especially my green tea. It is literally just water with a few leaves thrown in it.

I wouldn't count coke or energy drinks as water though. Though I now count energy drinks as poison (I can't believe I used to drink them almost everyday. :O )
