what size should I wear?!

Okay, so I have been out of touch with fashion for about 11 years. I got pregnant with my first child and well all desire to be trendy and hip feel out the window. My fear right now is to be dressing younger than I am. I am 35, have 2 children, am married, and DO NOT WANT TO DRESS LIKE A HOOKER!

Okay, I am not a prude, but no thigh high boots with spiked heels for me. No skin tight anything.

So I tried on clothes a month ago after losing 16.6 pounds and bought size small pants and shirts two sizes smaller. No big right...wrong. I am looking at the Lane Bryant sizing chart and realized my measurements are in the 28 range for pants and 26 range for shirts. However I am wearing size 22 pants, and 18/20 shirts............. Nothing is skin tight. No muffin top hanging out over my pants. Everything is under my clothes and there is room in them.

What am I doing wrong? I am concerned I am wearing clothes I shouldn't be. And quite frankly that scares me. I don't want to be the mom who looks like she wants to be a teenager. I want to be fashionable again, but I honestly have on idea what that is now. Any help?

If having my measurements helps here they are:
Neck-15
upper bust-45
center bust-50.5
lower bust-41.5
belly button-49
hips-54.5
Upper right leg-28.5
right Calf-19.5
Upper left leg-27.5
left calf-18.5
Bicep right-17
Bicep left-17.5

Maybe post a photo of yourself in the clothes so we can see! :)

I personally think if you're comfortable, nothing is "showing off" (no muffin top from tight pants and no bra latch lines) then you're probably doing it right!

Do you like how they look on you? Do they fit comfortably? What do your husband/friends think?

If you get the thumbs up from the people you care about and you feel comfortable and confident, don't worry about the size on the tag.

if you want honest opinions, I'd suggest posting pics rather than measurements.

size charts are BS. they are rarely ever close to right.

wear what looks good and what YOU feel comfortable in!
Don't worry about the numbers. They do not matter.

It is all about fit. Sizes vary too much. You are probably doing just fine.

As said in a similar thread just a bit down from this one: don't fret about or believe sizing numbers at all. Trust yourself and how you look in the mirror. The stuff isn't skin tight and no bulging out of it? You're probably perfectly fine despite the numbers.

Lane Bryant I wear all different weird sizes there, along with most stores.... even when my measurements fit the charts as I buy online.

As long as everything's fitting in there and the mirror says it looks good to you don't even think about the variation in the sizes, you can't rely on them at all.

And truly, given the clothing styles at Lane Bryant I've always seen you really don't have to worry about looking like you're trying to be another age. They tend to be good for folks our age and older.

As soon as my bra dries I will get dressed and post a picture. (My husband says I look great, but he said that when I weighed 305 so his opinion while I love it, doesn't prevent me from looking like a hooker.) My other friends haven't said much. I don't think they can tell I have lost weight yet.

I think you might be a little caught up in the numbers here. If the size 22 pants and the 18/20 shirts fit you nicely then wear them. Just because your measurements say you should be a certain size doesn't mean you are...all designers have different standards for their clothing. For instance, I have sizes 2, 4 and 6 in my closet right now and guess what...everything fits perfectly. I have small and medium shirts. I also tried on a size 8 shirt the other day and it fit when all the other shirts in my closet are size 4 and 6. I would assume most women carry multiple sizes into a dressing room because...yep you guessed like I said before...all designers/stores have different standards for their sizes. You say your clothes aren't skin-tight and you don't have muffin tops on your pants...sounds to me you are doing it right regardless of what sizes you are wearing.

If it fits, that's what size you should wear. Charts don't matter.

As far as being "fashionable" or dressing "age-appropriate", that is up to you. Only you know what you like.
