Hello, Heather here. Looking for support.

After a really, really bad day on a very poor diet (see my food diary for today) I realized that I really need to make a change in my life. I've been trying but I always give up. But I feel myself gaining weight, I feel more and more unhappy as the days go on and I am NOT helping myself with the way that I eat and with how little I excercise. The second component is that I don't have support. I don't have any encouragement or anyone in my life who really understands or sympathizes with what I am doing.
Unfortunately, I am about to leave for a year long work experience in Germany and will be encountering new foods and cultural customs that I will want to take part in. Fortunately, my job (au pair) requires me to run after two five year old girls and take them to school - which means we will be walking almost everywhere and to get around when I am not working I will either be walking, taking a bike, or finding the nearest bahn stop. So... I hope that these things will work FOR me seeing as I will want to eat all of the delicious foods and beer. Oh, beer... damn.
So I hope that you guys here will get to know me and will help me towards my goals! I want to be 180 or less at the end of all of this and I am at 245 right now. I am 23 years old and am 5'8". I carry my weight very well, I'm tall so it's distributed evenly but it's just starting to get uncomfortable. I think I'm really the only person who seems to think it's an issue but I don't have health insurance so I haven't been to a doctor about it in a long time.
I hope to be successful and I can't wait to make some new friends!

Hey,
That job opportunity in Germany sounds amazing, hope you have a great time and just remember losing weight is not a diet its a life style change. This will be the biggest challenge in you new life style change and if you can get through this you will be able to get through anything. Just keep remembering how you felt when you lost the first pound, two pounds, five pounds... There is nothing wrong with trying new food and experience their culture just try to keep in mind what you are eating and portions, eat small portions that way you will be able to try different things and not over do it .Hope any of this helped and have a great trip0 -
Sounds like your new job may be a perfect new start to a healthy lifestyle as it sounds like your day to day work will involve alot of walking etc.
Tracking your food on good days or not so good days is a great start, think of how your body feels now and how you'd like it to feel. That might help you keep going!
You've got all sorts of support here on MFP all you have to do is post just like you did. :flowerforyou:

Hi
congratulations on your new job. Track you food every day also set yourself little goals like each week. They don't all have to do with losing weight but tools to help you keep on track. That's what I do. For example find the tv programme the biggest loser very motivational. Note the times when it's on. Try & watch it on your days off. I watch it if am in at weekends. I am going to try & post you everday with a little tip that works for me ok. That way we can help each other. So let me know how yr doing?0 -

Good morning Heather. WELCOME ! MyFP is not what I expected. I believe that it has brought many great pleasure to see that they are not in every boat alone. I can honestly say that that I am not one to jump in head first to make friends (and I wasn't) however, it's hard not to here on MyFP but it's what makes us stronger. We can conquer so much more when we are there for one another. Stay strong and be enocouraged.0 -

Thank you to everyone who has written to me! I appreciate it so much! I am trying today but it's slow. I didn't lose the foods that I like but I tried to eat less of them and guess what? It isn't killing me to eat less every meal. I eat like I'm never going to be fed again. A few months ago I binged so much on food that I actually forced myself to throw up. I NEVER want to feel like that again. I don't think I ever felt so crummy after that. It was a horrible day! But I will persevere!
Thank you for your help and support! I'll take everything!0 -

I don't seem to be able to show my tracker, but anyway I am now half a stone lighter which is great. 21lbs to go. Going for a jog around the park to celebrate.0
