I am thinking about buying a HRM and I was just curious as to what you use and why you like it?

I don't know aout good ones but don't buy one without a chest strap! The calorie counter watches are hard to use and not very accurate (at least mine) I have a PULSE calorie watch. After you stop exercising you have to push 3 different buttons then place finger over sensor. It measures your pulse at that time and counts your calories burned by that number. Problem is you have to calculate while you are still exercising or the number is inaccurate as your HR drops significantly within a few seconds of standing still.
Today I rode my bike to the gym then did a Drums Alive class (pretty intense cardio) after class my HRM said I had burned 231 calories total (WRONG!) then I rode my bike home and I tried again before I stopped riding and it said I burned 865! I do not believe I burned 600 calories on the ride home!! When I can afford a BodyBugg I am going that route for sure!
    Good Luck!

I'm confused... you say DON'T buy one with a chest strap, yet everything you write about just the watches suggest DO buy one with a chest strap lol. Well, I for one have one with a chest strap and it's the easiest thing to use. It's an Oregon Scientific SE300; a Valentine's Day gift from my husband (he knew I wanted one!).

Thanks! I have used them before way back when but I am sure the technology is much better now.
  • I have used several HRM's. Right now I use both a Garmin and Polar. Both are great!!! If I would talk up one over the other, I would go with the Polar. The Garmin is great for what I need, but most don't need that much to justify the expense. WIth Polar you can pick one for your budget and why activities you do. If you are looking to get into shape, I would get one of the Polars that have the fitness test with it. It gives you a way to measure your fitness heart rate and set goals to work towards. Hope this helps.

Actually she said "don't buy one WITHOUT a chest strap." Therein lies the confusion.

I have a Polar FT4 & it's great for my needs. I just bought my husband a Polar 6 - they are still on sale at Sears for $54.88 which is less than I paid for my older model :::grumble grumble::: Below is the girly version:
