Adding a juice to your daily meal plan is fine, it's a great was to get more nutrients into your diet, juice fasting is pointless, you don't need to cleanse and your body holds no toxins that it can't get rid off.

That said I want an apple and carrot juice now  No apples in the house though

And you have opened a hornets nest here, be prepared.

I prefer to eat the whole fruit, better source of fiber :flowerforyou:
  • "Experts" say it's a faster way to get nutrients to your cells.

Some of what they are saying-I can relate too-I have really bad cravings no matter what I eat.
I'm considering going off my "light" "sugar free" "Fat free" diet staples....but not sure what to pick instead.

Looking for info...ther is so much stuff out there on what to do-what to eat-etc!

If you juice you are adding a lot of sugar to your diet...so...if you juice you'd have to go off your sugar free diet.
And juicing does strip the fiber out of it. As another poster said - adding juice is cool now and then...but why not just eat the fruit?

    Yes I do!

I started juicing about 2 weeks ago. I don't do juice fast, but I do juice 2 meals of fruits & veggies every day. So far the biggest change I have seen has been in mental awareness, overall energy level & a reduction of cravings for sweets/salty junk. Since I have started I can tell a noticeable difference in the afternoon/evening when I don't get the 2 juice meal.

I drink approx. 800ml about 30 minutes before breakfast & lunch. It creates a noticeable difference in appetite.

I use a Breville 510 & can usually juice enough for an entire day in about 15 minutes (including clean up)

I too have become interested in juicing based on articles and documentaries I have seen. I have made the decision to start small and ease in by substituting one meal a day for a "juice meal". What sorts of diet staples are you referring to when you say fat free, light, or sugar free staples? It is so confusing trying to decide who to trust and what information is best when it comes to our diet. I have found it to be super frustrating, and I think that is why people struggle changing the way they eat. That's why I have found starting small makes it easier for me to stick to and less frustrating.

Juicing is excellent form of nutrition and detox as long as u use mostly vegetables and use as a meal replacement. GIves your gut a chance to cleanse and rest while giving you maximum nutrition. Try to use organic greens as much as possible.

I can't remember every eating 1 bundle of kale, 1/2 bundle of spinach, 4 carrots, a lime & an apple in my life. But kale is the most nutrient rich leafy vegetable organically grown & readily available in northern Indiana. I can't see a down side to introducing its SUGAR FREE nutrients into my diet on a daily basis.

I would be hard to eat pounds of vegetables a day but you can if you juice. You can get fiber in other foods

If juicing or green smoothie is what it takes to get you to eat large quantities of "leaves", then it's great. If you do a fast, consider just 5-7 days, then move to 2 juice meals and one regular meal.

For the long-term, view juice as a PART of a healthy balanced diet.

I make green smoothies for weekday lunches because there is no other way I would eat as much kale, spinach, or other leaves. I like the fiber it gives me that I'd lose by juicing. It keeps me full, gives me great nutrients and micronutrients, and allows me to eat large filling dinners while still keeping in my calorie goals.

See my profile or diary for details if interested.

I love juicing.. it is a great way to get FAR MORE nutrients than you could ever possibly get from eating that much fruits and veggies. When you juice, you're getting nothing but the nutrients. Yes, that means no fiber, but without the fiber you can take in more nutrients at once! I try to do one juice fast day every week or two weeks. I am never hungry, I am full of energy, I feel lighter and healthier, and I experience less craving because my body is overloaded with nutrients. Give it a try--just remember to juice veggies with your fruit!

This is me, too. I love juicing for that reason! I know I'm sacrificing the fiber, but I make sure I get plenty of that from other foods. Juicing is how I get more leafy green veggies in my diet. Kale, collard greens, rainbow chard - things I love when juiced with other veggies and some apple, but wouldn't eat on their own.

I don't do any juice fasting, but often have fresh juice for breakfast and/or an afternoon snack.

I made it 5 very comfortable days into a juice fast - mostly vegetable juice, and then I became super hungry and came off...but I think I'll try again in a couple months...it was very refreshing...I had tons and tons and tons of energy...and my skin (which has been an issue since middle age hit) totally cleared up...I don't really care what experts say, I can tell it was good for me just because of how I felt...and I typically have blood sugar issues, but no problems there either. I think up to a 10 day juice fast is pretty safe for anyone of average health...I don't think I would go beyond that because frequently what is healthy short term is not so healthy long term, but for up to 10 days, no question, I think it does a body good.
  • I was more like thinking drink 1 or 2 a day....not as meals.

Like for breakfast eat oatmeal (hello, fiber) and a juice....
and maybe one around dinner or something...

SO my other question is....(since I am trying to lose weight,) do you count the calories of whatever you put in there and add them all together orrrr ???

You do realize that juicing means you're processing your food, right? And we all know how dangerous processed foods are.

uhhhh...why wouldn't you? Everything you consume should be accounted for. Or maybe I'm not understanding what you are asking....
  • I'm looking for a way to NATURALLY add nutrients/vitamins/minerals to my diet.

I will never eat the recommended servings of fruits & veggies a day...it is just flat out not going to happen for me-I'm realistic here.

I take a multivitamin everyday-and have been for the last 8 or 9 months and have not noticed anything.....

If you do not agree with this then there is no reason for you to reply to this topic. :)

So you just want posts that agree with you and support you, regardless of any useful information that may be passed on?

    Cool beans.

There are juicing groups on MFP if you'd like to search and join those. Perhaps you'll find more info there. And if you make a post in a public forum - you'll get all kinds of responses...if you want only one kind of response, either refer to your friends list or make/join a group coinciding with what you are doing.

I'm not against having a glass or two of juice a day...but you said you are looking for a NATURAL way to add nutrients - then again...eating them can be more beneficial then juicing.

I do count the calories. Pretty much the same as if I had eaten it. But when you're talking about a lot of veggies, the calories are pretty low. Most of the calories in the juices I make are from the apple I throw in to make it something I actually enjoy drinking.
