Milk

Milk has a lot of sugar. I like to make oatmeal made with milk for breakfast, but it eats up the sugar fitness pal says I am supposed to have for the day. Is the kind of sugar in milk bad? Should I feel a little better about going over the sugar limit if it's because of milk and not a coke/candy bar/etc.

I wouldn't worry so much about the milk in sugar or fruit.

I like the protein the milk gives me. I like the taste it gives oatmeal too. Plus sometimes I eat fiber cereal for breakfast occasionally.

I just need to know if I need to plan on cutting back sugars for the rest of the day if I choose milk in breakfast. If so, I may need to find something else for breakfast!

I tend not to really count sugar unless it's added sugar in junk foods. I refuse to feel bad about eating fruit etc b/c it has natural sugar in it and I'm pretty much always over the mfp recommendations...

ETA: unless you are really trying to cut and be crazy fit the sugar in natural foods shouldn't really hinder weight loss at all (unless say you are eating 20 oranges in a day etc)

Are you diabetic? If not, don't worry about the sugar in healthy foods like fruit, milk, etc. Obviously, you should take a good look at the label before you grab a Snickers and call it protein because it has peanuts. Common sense is key. MFP has some silly recommendations. :-)

As long as you are meeting your requirements for daily protein, getting enough calories and are exercising regularly (and you don't have any medical conditions that limit your sugar intake):

    Don't worry about it.

As long as you don't have a medical issue that requires you to keep an eye on your sugars don't worry about it.

Widespread sugar fear was a good way to sell books and make some people a lot of money.
