Under 1200 calories

This has probably been asked before, but I wondered if it truly is "unhealthy" to eat below 1200 calories. It seems that is how I lose weight. If I eat 1200 or above, I really struggle, but under 1200 it's coming off. Anyone else experience this? I should add that currently I have no exercise routine.

Most everyone on here believes in eating more than 1200 calories. I have been on many diets where I ate about 1000 calories a day and of course I lost weight, because I was basically starving myself. I gained all that weight back too because it isn't healthy.
1200 is very low. I am even eating more than that right now and I haven't started implementing any exercise yet. You will always lose weight if you burn more calories in a day than you eat. I suggest moving more and eating more because it's much healthier for you.0 -
IMO it depends on how far under 1200 you are and the types of food you eat. I am between 800 and 1000 and I'm eating very healthy foods and I feel I'm just fine, been doing it over a year now and no side effects that others have said will happen has happened, I'm NOT in starvation mode, my hair isn't falling out, my nails have always been bad so no difference there, I'm still losing at a steady pace, between 10 and 13 lbs a month, I'm not hungry all the time as they say I should be, I also don't recommend anyone else eat the way I eat, why? because I do what works for me, you need to figure out what works for you.
Most on here are saying 1200 isn't nearly enough and you should eat eat eat. Not like you didn't get overweight by eating that much but to each his/her own. Good luck.0 -
It depends somewhat on how tall you are, too.0

I should add 1200 is very low considering everyone on here. I do agree you should do whatever works for you. When I was doing my 1000 calories a day I did amazing! But I just didn't have the willpower to keep it off. If 1200 fills you up and you are still able to function than all the more power to you.0

It depends on your size, age, medical conditions, etc. My maintenance calories are extremely low, around 900-1100 depending on how much/what kind of exercise I do. For weight loss I try to stick to 600-800 a day, even then I lose maybe .5lb/week. For a healthy person that's larger than me 1000 would be too low.0

It depends on your size, height, age and weight. I'm only 4'11 and I weigh 100 pounds. I eat under 1000 calories a day and I wear a size 2.0
