What to do?

I have noticed that a few people are eating significantly under their calorie needs and I am wondering if I should be encouraging people to eat more? These numbers are like 600 cals / day! Very much in the starvation zone! I would love some input because I don't want to be offensive to people but I really believe that healthy weight loss is the only sustainable weight loss there is and thus the only successful plan out there. Thank you ahead of time for suggestions on what to do.

I see if everyday on facebook. Friends who are doing "biggest loser" contests at their job or whatever. A couple guys who are my size (6'2" 228lb) are eating 1200cal daily. I've done that before and know its miserable and the weight always comes back.

I've since learned that unless someone asks my opinion specifically, they won't be receptive to it or appreciate it. Just gotta wipe it off and go about it knowing in the end you will be better off.

    I see this two ways...

I don't often give unsolicited advice but I have to peple on my FL. IMHO, the whole point of making friends here is to get support, right? Not everone is receptive to feedback so you may get a b!tchy response or be unfriended. If you don't mind taking the risk, it may be worth it to help them.

IRL, I wouldn't give unsolicited advice unless someone was whining about being hungry all the time or plateauing. Everyone thinks their diet is the best until it stops working so that's usually prime time for giving advice. Again, you take a risk of getting a negative response but I'd rather apologize for overstepping my bounds than regret saying nothing.
  • Thanks for the insight! I really appreciate it! I was thinking of just putting a message on my site basically saying that if anyone is not eating enough calories to be healthy I will probably say something about it. Give them warning before I start saying something specific. I notice a specific lack of calories among younder people (college age). I was doing the same thing then too but have since learned more about nutrition and health (NOT that I follow it always myself). Anyway, thanks!

I have seen some people with a warning on their home site saying that they won't accept friend requests from people who practice starvation and will call people on it if they see it.

They could be doing protein sparing modified fasts, intermittent fasting, or using any number of advanced strategies. Probably not, but could be.
