How Can I Stop Boredom Eating?

Most of my unhealthy/constant snacking happens during the few hours after dark before I go to bed. These are the hours I am more likely to be bored. It's really not doable for me to find something to do during these hours to take my mind off of food. So what are some tricks I can use to keep my mind away from food and to just break my boredom eating all together??

That is my biggest issue. Since I am taking classes, I do homework at night and I just want to munch while I work. I try to drink a huge glass of water instead. If that doesn't help I go for an apple with peanut butter. Hopefully others will have some good ideas!0

If you can't simply eat a later dinner, perhaps you could take up a hobby? I like to make collages out of magazines. I subscribe to muscle & fitness and all of these things and I like to cut out body parts and reassemble them onto construction paper with a glue stick. It really helps with a lot of things I'm working through. Or jigsaw puzzles, people like those.

I eat before bed every night. However all those calories are accounted for. Personally I don't eat breakfast and save my calories for later in the day/night.

- Glass of water instead
- Brush your teeth instead
- Go for a walk instead
- I went and looked in the mirror and that sure helped me to not eat anything else late the other night.0 -
i look at my fat pic on the fridge. that usually does the trick.0

I am confused.
You said it is not feasible to do anything to take your mind off food. So why would you ask for suggestions on ways to keep your mind off food?0 -
I struggle with this, too ... big time! I work an awkward schedule and often have trouble sleeping, especially if I don't eat before or at bed time. For me, it basically comes down to will power.
Because I usually exercise after work, when I finally get home I'll eat a small meal (such as a can of tuna with some relish or some fresh fruit). I usually go to bed an hour or so after that. But again, it all comes down to will (I suppose).0 -
Try to eat something very low cal, like tomatoes, carrots, ...any kind of (high fiber) vegetable will do. Find one that you like and eat all you want. Or all you can. lol0

I have exactly the same problem. I eat dinner around 7 and then go to bed around 10. After dinner I'm normally on the internet or watching television, getting up to go to the kitchen during every commercial break!
As from today I will try to actually plan my after dinner snacking, so instead of telling myself I cannot have anything after dinner (a promise I always break anyway), I'm going to save some calories for a planned snack around 8.30. I will try and see if this can calm me.0 -
I was going to say drinking water and brushing teeth, but someone beat me to it It really does help! Or else choose really healthy simple snacks.0

How about doing something that occupies your hands like knitting or cross-stitch or crochet? I don't have this evening problem with eating, but when I gave up smoking over 12 years ago, evenings after dinner were the time I most missed my ciggies for the first few months. I did cross-stitch and found that really helped, both by distracting me mentally and giving my hands something to do other than smoke.0
