Question on daily light strength exercise

Hi,

I´m fairly new here, so - hello everyone!

I am a 34 year old male currently on a determined quest to lose some weight. So far I have, through cardio and rigorous attention to calorie intake (thanks to myfitnesspal!), lost about 7 kg (15 lb) in 6 weeks. I am also doing a series of strength training exercises with dumbbells and body weight three days a week, and securing a surplus of protein in my diet, for the time being just to balance the inevitable loss of muscle mass, but eventually, as I approach my goal of 77 kg (170 lb), to reverse the process and start eating more calories than I burn, and thus, through strength training to begin regaining mass in the form of muscle.

Ok, so, now to my question: since I am really quite concerned about the potential for muscle loss, I am considering adding to my strength training by doing a few sets of push-ups and crunches on a daily basis - now, will this conflict with my strength training regime in that my muscles will not get a proper chance to rest and rebuild, or is this not an issue?

Thanks for any replies!

As a regular gym goer, I would say that with the amount of exercise you are doing, this isn't an issue. Most of us are mere mortals exercising cos we know it's good for us and cos we want to improve our fitness so I think adding in some crunches and sit ups can do no harm whatsoever and I with the exercise you're doing I can't see why you would be loosing muscle mass. Well done on doing so well so far!

feenbean, thanks for the swift reply! I appreciate it, it´s amazing how easy it is to get into the routine the minute you begin to see the results, and once you realize that eating healthy isn´t at all the living horror it´s so often made out to be. And it really does feel a lot better living in my body these days. :)
