Dizziness and nausea?

Hi! Today I had my fasted morning workout of 25minutes of 1minute intervals of high knees, frog jumps, jumping jacks and rope skipping without the rope, and then 15minutes of jogging.
After which I was promptly stopped by an elderly man who just wanted to talk to someone. While I was standing there listening to him talk, I suddenly felt a dizzy spell hitting me and felt nauseous. I tried to keep it in but after a few seconds I squatted down and felt a little better.
The past few days I've been eating around 2000calories (more than I should be but I have problems with binging) and so I know it is definitely not weakness from undereating! Also, I had about 1700calories the previous night at about 11pm til midnight. I then slept around 3+am.
I have recently also cut down on my length of working out and it has been about 10 days. I sometimes can go for 4 hours of intense cardio on the treadmill after eating about 2000 calories without feeling dizzy and sick..
Is it the fasted cardio? Or is it suddenly stopping in my tracks? I was jogging pretty intensely before coming to a complete stop when the elderly man approached.. Definitely not a sprint, but it was after doing my HIIT like interval training thing so I'm wondering if that's it?
Or is my body reacting to eating too much junk and/or my reduced working out? I've been having quite a bit of processed foods lately, including A LOT of bread, mostly not the whole grain type... But I also have my veggies, fruits, cheese, yoghurt, tuna etc the healthy usual!!
Thanks a bunch in advance

I have never done well with trying to do exercise on an empty stomach. You have not eaten for a while and suddenly you are placing a demand on your system. Possible fixes for this problem would be (IMHO)
1. Eat a little bit before the workout -- If you don't want to do that...
2. Eat a little bit right after you work out. or have something ready to eat in case you get dizzy like that.
Most agree that eating immediately after the workout (protein shakes are an option here) ... will help with several problems including keeping you from starving after the workotu.
If you try these things and it does not help then... you may want to see a doctor..
Also, if this is a new problem (forgive the suggestion but it could potentially be a issue with some women), is there a possibility that you could be pregnant? Again, not trying to delve into things that are not my concern.. just a consideration should you be a candidate for that condition.
At any rate, I wish you the best in your endeavour.0 -
it could be running hard and then coming to complete spot..I know at the end of the race on Saturday I sprinted the last .25 miles and when i hit the finish and stopped I was a little woozy..not nauseous though..
I have never felt woozy/sick from training fasted and I do it pretty regularly...
I would think that it is just the running hard then coming to complete spot..however, if it persists you should go see your DR.0 -
Thanks guys for the replies
I train fasted almost always in the past and sometimes feel dizzy after a hard workout but hardly ever nauseous so I got worried! But I guess it's a mix of the recent changes ie starting to train fasted again, the heat, and coming to a sudden complete stop!
I think pregnancy is out of the question haha but yeah if it persists I'd definitely visit the doctor!!
I also eat after my workouts (though not immediately) and feel better!
The nausea scared me because I felt like I was about to pass out and I still had a way to go before getting home! Also hard to have a workout snack ready for whenever I feel nauseous since I already have my hands full with my wallet, keys, phone, ipod! I'd have to figure out a way I guess since I train best fasted!
Thanks again0 -
Sounds like exhaustion. I've had the same feeling before and it turns out I wasn't eating well before my workout. Get some proteins and fats and maybe an apple in before you workout and hopefully that helps.0

Personally, I can't do any workout, especially cardio, on an empty stomach. I feel weak and tend to bonk halfway through, or else feel terrible afterwards. As far as I know, there's no real rationale for doing fasted morning cardio. Try having a light breakfast first, maybe within an hour or so of the workout (I have a "first breakfast" before my workout, then a bigger "second breakfast", lol). You might feel better.0

Very simple answer. Its not diet, its a blood pressure crash from the sudden stop.
That is the singular reason "warm down" is programmed into treadmills, etc....
This happened to me a few times, till I figured it out.0 -
hydrate hydrate hydrate and a cool down.. the empty stomach might be something as well but more the others.0

Thanks again for the replies!!
I'm inclined to think that it is the sudden stop too!0 -
Fours hours intense cardio???? Seriously, you'd need to eat a lot more than 2000 calories a day to fuel that little lot.0

I can't workout on an empty stomach, I feel sick and dizzy from it.0

I can do cardio on empty stomach without a problem but i must cool down slowly or I feel sick as a dog and my head spins like mad whether I have eaten or not.
My guess is the blood is pumping to your legs and arms but as you have come to a sudden stop it is pooling in your muscles. Euck.0 -

How's your heart rate doing in those moments? It could be heart related (that's my problem). Or it could be sugar related (diabeties?) Or it could be diet related (are you getting your nutrients). If you are eating mostly grains and not getting enough protein and fats it could be that. I'd recommending getting about .8g of protein/lb of body weight if you're exercising regularly and see if that makes you feel any better.0
