New moms?

Hi, my name is Danielle and today is the day I start to lose my baby weight. I was wondering if there are any other new moms out there to share in this journey.

My story: I weighed 120lbs when I got pregnant. I had just worked really hard to lose 20lbs. When I delivered on January 5, I weighed 170. They had to take my son 9 weeks early due to preeclampsia. He spent 37 days in the NICU and has been home for several weeks. We are finally getting into a good routine and I have the energy and desire to begin losing weight again.

  • My daughter is almost 11 months old now. I weighed around 170 when we got pregnant (so I was already 40-50lbs overweight) and I was over 200 before I had her (I had pre-e too but I had no symptoms until the last few weeks when the weight really started piling on and my bloodpressure when nuts)

After I had her I pretty much instantly lost about 30lbs. She was a c-section and the time in the hospital actually weaned me of some of my bad eating habits and I was borderline anemic when I was sent home so I had to really watch what I was eating. As soon as I felt ready - about 2 weeks after coming home - I started walking to the grocery store everyday (about a 30min walk one way). We don't have AC in our house so it was exercise and a break from the heat all at once.

I got down to 153 or so and got stuck. The weather had changed and I couldn't get out to walk anymore (we don't have a mall or anything here where you can just wander around) and our baby wasn't giving me a whole lot of time during naps to do much aside from catch up on cleaning and my own sleep.

My weight was going back and forth around 153-155 and then I got the myfitnesspal app after a friend recommended it. Our daughter's naps are longer and more reliable now so I can exercise (I do about 30 minutes on the treadmill every other day and if she is still asleep when I am done that I do 30 minutes of Zumba on the wii at high intensity). I stay around 1200 calories per day and am down to 150.5 already and I really only got serious again about this a week ago.

I can't wait for the weather to get nice again so that I can go for walks OUTSIDE with my daughter but until then this is going to be the norm.

I want to get down to 125 (based on my height that is sort of the middle ground for me) so I still have a ways to go but I am feeling pretty good about everything and I feel SO MUCH HEALTHIER!

All I can say is if you ever start to feel overwhelmed or exhausted don't be afraid to take a break for a couple days. Don't go crazy eating everything in sight but don't feel obligated to get on the treadmill if you are run down. And make sure you aren't pushing too hard. Even a little bit of exercise after losing a baby makes a big difference from what I have experiences and been told.

The way I look at it, even if you are only losing 2-3lbs a month that is still only a year to lose 25 lbs. The weight didn't go on in a month it's not going to come back off in a month.

Hi Danielle. I had my gfirst born on Jan 11 of this year. She was 3 weeks early and was an emergency c section. I gained 28lbs with her, lost 18 and now looking to lose the other 20 with the help of MFP. I was only able to BF for 2 weeks before i lost my supply. So now my dtr Reagan is on formula. I work full time and go to school part time. Its tough. Lets encourage each other!

Well I'm not so much a "new mom" since I have two and the "baby" is...19 months? Yeah, 19. The older boy is 3.5 years. My prepregnancy weight with #2 was 175lbs and I was something like 200-205 when I left the hospital. Today I am 150. Two csections so my tummy is a little gross looking, but it's going! It was so much easier to lose the weight this time around since I was a lot more active this pregnancy.
I work full time in the military so unless it's set PT time, working out is hard. But with the nice weather rolling in, after dinner walks will at least be back on the routine!
