Granted today is only day two of counting calories and really trying to lose weight, but how in gods name do yout stay motivated. I am looking at my calories and of course I went over, not by much but enough that I am not going to hit my goal if I keep going this way. So I am looking at what I have to cut and I start feeling like what's the point. I know what the point is but how does anyone keep motivated and should I be looking at doing a different workout if I walk on the treadmill uphill for an hour and only gain back 326 calories.

Hon, why don't you let us see your diary? We can give you much better advice if we can see what you're eating. I know it's kinda weird. I tend to keep mine friends-only (mostly cuz I sometimes rant about TOM), so I understand. However, it's hard to advise someone when you can't see what's going on.

Yes, this is hard. It can be REALLY hard. If you're burning over 300 cals a day, I'd say that's great exercise. You know you can eat those calories back, right? If you're not used to eating healthy, you're probably experiencing culture shock, sugar withdrawal, and no telling what else. It's hard for the first little while you do it. Hang in there.

You're not alone. There's a lot of us on here who are really happy to give helpful advice. :flowerforyou:

without being able to see your diary I can't speak to directly what you are eating.
I always try to be within 200 calories (under or over) of my goal...obviously not over daily. I have learned I love walking, there are some really great trails around where I live and its so nice to see the ducks, chipmunks, geese, and other animals as I walk along. I stay motivated honestly by thinking of family I have lost most of which were over weight and dealt with heart disease, and diabetes as well as cancers. I also look at my kids, I want to not only see them grow and enjoy life with them but to see where life takes them, and the children they will have.
I don't think this lifestyle change means i can't have any particular food its learning portions and moderation! That has opened my eyes alot. Its not easy but I have been here about 2 mths and now it comes naturally, I am still looking at alot of foods and checking calories, fats, and stuff on them before deciding if I really want to buy it but in the end I know I am doing better for myself AND my family.
    Good Luck!!

I knew that there was no way that I could go cold turkey with food! Thus far I have lost 30 pounds and the following is how. You have made the first step and that is joining this MFP.

    1. Get some friends on here. It is something about having your own personal dream team to motivate you and be your role models. When it says someone has logged in for 100 days you know that it is possible for you.

    2. Take it one day at a time.

    3. Think of TWO things you can remove from your diet (without you feeling like you are going to die-yet, lol) and TWO things positive that you can ADD to help your cause. EXAMPLE(S):
Remove: #1). Drinking Sweet Tea and Soft Drinks #2) Fried Foods +++++++++ Add: #1 Drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day #2 Walking 30 minutes three days a week. Every two weeks change your 2/2 items. Make it a challenge for yourself but a short term (as we tend to bore easily).

    4. Lastly do all of this for you and only you. In being selfish you are taking care of you so that the people you love and that love you - Loves the you that you love. Yes that is a mouthful be it is typed the way I mean it.

You can do this! You have power beyond anything you ever thought yourself possible
