By "gained" he probably meant she replaced fat with some lean muscle mass. Yes, they eat at a deficit but they do weight train and while they won't bulk up, you can see the tone in arms and legs. But yes, each week we see is 10-14 days there. Bigger numbers keep people intrigued and it is hard to pull double digits every week.0

People who are completely new to weight training AND very overweight can, with a properly managed macro balance, build muscle in a deficit.0

Gaining 19 pounds of muscle in 11 weeks (with little or no fat gain) would take an incredible amount of strength training work and very tight calorie control, including careful cycling between days of surplus and days of deficit (and really close nutrient timing), all under the guide of someone who really knows what they are doing (which from what I've seen of the show.... maybe).
It's also possible that an electronic body fat monitor can be tricked into indicating that.0 -
I would say they can build some since obese and new to training. But not the type of numbers you talk about, unless they are also taking 'roids.
Most likely it is an error in measuring body fat%, which the numbers made it appear that LBM went up by that amount. Did they say how they were being tested for this? Most BF% tests are not very accurate, and the more fat you have it is even more likely an error in the reading.0 -
also considering how much bf these people have in the beginning isnt it possible that it's masking some of he initial lean body mass?
also the amount of water you retain can effect your test results. i would imagine at the beginning she was eating a lot of high sodium, low nutritional value foods that caused more water retention. switching to a fresher diet AND regular exercise would definitely lead o less water retention.
with that said i could see her having gained some of that (maybe as much as half) in the 4-5 months they are on the ranch, especially by her essentially being a newbie0
