I just got the Polar FT7 and can not seem to get it to pick up my heart rate. I did everything according to the manual. Any advice?

Either:
A) I'm heartless
B) it's defective or
C) I just suck at reading user manuals.

I think the answer may be B.

    I love my PT7.

It may be faulty but have you wet the strap? What does the screen say when you have pressed start?

Chest strap is the most accurate way to get your heart rate and get your calories. Just an FYI, I have the Polar FT4...it is fairly cheap and simple and I wore the chest strap for 5+ hours today (I think I put it on at 9AM, went for my walk, took it off for a shower and put it on because my husband and I were walking around all day so had it on again from 11:30ish and still wearing it now at 4:30PM and I kind of forgot that I had it on) so it is very comfortable. It isn't meant to be worn like a fit bit all the time...just during workouts but I've worn it all day at work for my bike to work and then home from work and never had issues.

Are you getting a 00 reading, or no reading at all?

Assuming you've checked the basics (unit is attached to chest strap, chest strap electrodes are wet enough, you've paired the unit with the watch etc.), check that your sports bra doesn't come down too far and cover the area where the chest strap needs to go. I had that problem with one kind of sports bra. Also, some fabrics (technical ones especially) can interfere with the signal. This is very rarely a problem but it can happen.

I did everything just as the manual said. It said over and over to check the device. Anyhow, long story short I took it back, returned it, got a new one and it worked perfectly. Also, this one looked "newer" than the other one.. It just looked more updated. It works fabulous. i love it so far..

As to those who asked, I did a lot of research and it seemed that this one was what I was really looking for. It is the polar FT7. Just FYI, Best buy now price matches so if you go, have the AMAZON price pulled up on your phone or something and they'll match. This one was (I think) $120 or $150 at best buy and they let me have it for $70! : )

What I REALLY wanted was a bodybugg, but I can't justify that price! :(
