DON'T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THINGS???

i have to vent! I am really struggling with PCOS. My wife has it and has to be on a very low carb diet. She is very petite and our eating needs are so different. I am a “eat whatever within your macros” kind of guy and she medically has to be on a very restrictive diet. My BMR is 2100 and hers is 1400. I am frustrated because i have found success with my eating habits and i have been able to help many others. However i must now admit to myself that i just don't know how to give any advice on this PCOS stuff. It is just so hard for me to watch how hard she is working and to know the effort she puts into it and just not know what to say. We have been to docters and nutritionists. She is on Metformin.
Sorry about going on. I have always been just like so many others. Eat whatever you want, don't restrict yourself, it's not hard to get to 1200 calories, all that jazz. However i now know the truth. It is different for everyone and it can be real hard for some even when they try hard.
Thanks for any advice or support you can give. If any of you ladies have any experience with PCOS then please feel free to let my wife know. She is mentally struggling with the changes we are learning she has to make. (stormygirl_82) Please know though that it will do no good to look at her diery as e already know that her eating as i do is not going to work for her as it does for me.

Sorry for not being too helpful with first hand knowledge, as I don't have PCOS, but have either of you searched the forums yet? I have seen tons of really helpful, informative, and encouraging posts about PCOS here in the forums before and I think there are even a couple PCOS groups on here... you might just have to search back a little while to find them. Good luck !0

I don't have PCOS, but I do follow a low carb diet to control my blood sugar. You're both welcome to send me a friend request I'm no expert, but after having gestational diabetes when pregnant, and now with higher blood sugar numbers, I've learned how to keep it under control.0

Hi! I have PCOS (been diagnosed for 18-ish years now). Has she ever tried cinnamon/chromium pills? I know it sounds crazy, but I take them and they really regulate my sugar and had helped me be able to lose weight with the standard approach of eat anything within reason. And they're super cheap too. I get mine for just a few dollars at walmart. May want to try them for a little while and see if they help. I can only speak from my personal experience, I'm not sure how much success others have had with it. But I did notice that once I got under a certain weight, all of my symptoms eased up greatly and I was able to have normal cycles and drop weight easier.0

I have PCOS and take Met as well.. It is horrible and my husband is like yourself.. He has a very hard time understanding it and how I have to eat.. When we started dating he would take me out to fast food all the time and never had sugar free anything at his house for me.. He just didn't get it.. When I gained 30 lbs he finally started to understand. Now that we are trying to have a baby he is being more helpful.. One thing I have him do is eat the things I can't while I am not home or while he is at a friends house. That way I don't get the cravings for what ever he is eating.. ( my will power sucks)... Together you guys can get it figured out so you don't have to feel deprived and she doesn't feel tempered. GL!0

I have PCOS , endometriosis, and irregualr.(diagnosed by laprascope over 20 years ago) I went thru over 5 years of fertillity treatments to get pregnant and after giving up on it all I became pregnant and now have a healthy 22 year old son . I follow low carb,1200 cal diet to control my sugar (was pre diabetic and had high BP) and have been successful at shedding 200 lbs. I am now on maintenance and can go to about 1400-1500 cals and am off of all meds. I will be the first to admit it is not easy. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears. I have a wonderful husband who supports me wholeheartedly and now calls me "his trophy wife". I get the strength from my faith in God to continue on this path I have chosen. Feel free to check my diary or message me for any questions.0

Is she a member of the PCOS group? It's a good place to vent and ask advice...

I've been on various diets for at least the past 3 years. I usually try for a while, then give up. I am 62, have had a complete hysterectomy so don't have the hormones younger women have but I have always had weight issues my whole life. More so after turning 40, but just can't seem to get and stay on a workable diet for me. Now I have just had my gallbladder removed after having pancreatitis in October. I don't have diabetes but I know if I don't get my weight under control I probably will end up that way. My doctors have said eat low carb, low fat. Not so easy to do. Maybe after I recover from surgery I will be able to find a diet that will work for me. All of the diet books and diet gurus don't have all the answers. They don't work if you can't afford the specialty foods or can cook every meal at home. Best of luck to all of you trying to do the same.0

I've seen posts from many MFP members with it. Have her check out the groups section. I'm sure she'll find some help there.0

I've got PCOS and am doing pretty great these days--I'm not on any meds. She can add me if she'd like. I eat a low carb paleo//primal diet and lift weights and I've had great results. I'm seconding the recommendation of the PCOSis group. There are a lot of us here on MFP.0
