ok, on my package of oatmeal it says 150 cals for 1/2 cup ( 40 grams). now is that 40 grams of cooked or uncooked? when i followed the recipe it was 3 cups water and 1.5 cups oatmeal. i got 6 1/2 cup servings cooked.... so i put 1 cup into 3 containers.

I always go by uncooked measurements unless it specifies otherwise. 150 cals for 1/2 cup uncooked plain oatmeal seems correct to me.
  • ive always assumed uncooked.

But then again u know what they say about assumptions..

uncooked. You can't measure oatmeal post-cook because the weight will differ drastically depending on how much water you use. Same with rice and pasta.

It is the dry meaure. I eat one third cup dry plus 2/3 cup water (microwave)and it is 100 calories. I have started adding a tablespoon of ground flax (35 cal) to up the protein and nutrition.

It is a dry measure --half cup. Some people put extra water in for a larger volume product. (Use a cup and a half water with a half cup dry oatmeal.) I think that was on a "Hungry Girl" suggestion board. It does make it very filling.

150 is the correct calories for 1/2 cup oatmeal out of the box. However you cook it and eat it is another matter.

LOL i hate trying to figure that stuff out, pasta too. OK so I buy the quick cooking steel cut oats from Trader Joes. The directions are to add 1/4 cup dry oatmeal to water (cant remember how much) , which makes 1/2 cup cooked, which is a serving.
